That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. A really lovely, excellent piece of eastern philosophy, strongly recommended for people who want to delve into the whole Advaita Vedanta thing. One will not think that it is the old personality which is doing the work, because one’s consciousness will gradually become transferred until it is centered in that which is beyond the little self. Repeated experience of this state of being weakens and destroys the vasanas (mental tendencies) which cause the ‘I’-thought to rise, and, when their hold has been sufficiently weakened, the power of the Self destroys the residual tendencies so completely that the ‘I’-thought never rises again.

within one's mind, when one reaches the Heart, the individual 'I' sinks crestfallen, and at once reality manifests itself as 'I-I'. That's not to say that reading other works is bad, only that departing from these answers and drilling down into detail tend merely to add unnecessary complexity and confusion. The probable reading, therefore, is, That they all may be one; as Thou, Father, in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us; and the meaning is that the union of the Church may be of the same essential nature as that between the Father and the Son; yea, that the union of the Church may result from the union of individual members with the Father through the Son. It is an awareness that is single and undivided, the thoughts which are many and divided having disappeared. He was profoundly inspired by a book on Ramana Maharshi’s teachings and was the librarian and archivist at the Tiruvannamalai ashram from 1978 to 1985.

I found that after about a third of the book I was seeing the same idea repeated and decided to move on to another book. Through this book, we can discover the essence of Sri Ramana's teaching: that self-realisation is the vital quest we must all pursue, before we can attempt to understand the world. To attain salvation ( liberation), a human being must acquire self-knowledge (atma jnana), which is to realise that one's true self (Ātman) is identical with the transcendent self Brahman (or paramatman). Also he does not say that he has disciples, for, being beyond otherness, there can be no relationship for him. The other way is to kill the ego by completely surrendering to the Lord, by realising one’s helplessness and saying all the time, ‘Not I but thou, O Lord’, giving up all sense of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ and leaving it to the Lord to do what he likes with you.

I answer, ‘Why being in the hall did you imagine you were on a world adventure, crossing hill and dale, desert and sea? Since its first appearance in the mid-80s, it has been, outside India, the standard introduction to Bhagavan’s teachings. That they all shall be one, just as you, my Father, are in me, and I am in you, so that they also shall be one in us.David Godman: "Bhagavan frequently used the Sanskrit phrase aham sphurana to indicate the 'I-I' consciousness or experience. If you know that, the three states will not trouble you, just as the pictures which appear on the screen do not stick to it.
