Since each side of the hexagonal top and bottom is 7-1/4 in. long and the 1×8 cedar sides are also 7-1/4 in. wide, the pieces fit like a glove. Use 6d (2-in.-long) galvanized nails to secure each wall section to the top and bottom panels. Each of our gazebos goes through a special pre treatment process which ensures the metal is protected from the elements. Cut 7/8-in. dowels and nail them on the corners. Use galvanized screws to mount a pipe flange to the center of the base. Drill two more 1/2-in. holes about 3 in. apart and cut out the space between them to create a clean out slot. Make the flap for the clean out slot from a piece of scrap siding and secure it with one screw. Add a few 3/16-in. holes in the base for drainage. There has been a surge in popularity in gazebos with retractable roofs, and it is easy to see why. They offer flexibility between shade and sun, allowing those sitting underneath to choose their preference. The Norfolk Leisure Sliding Gazebo is a popular choice with it's compact 2.8m square footprint, whilst those wanting a larger model may opt for Rowlinson's Florence Gazebo which is 4m by 3m. Free Standing GazebosSize, distribution, design, and intensity are key factors to consider and it is, therefore, essential to distinguish between the lights which illuminate the area and those which help set the mood. While you can usewall lightsorlampshanging from thegazebosto provide enough light at night, indirect lighting creates a magical atmosphere around you.' Sure, you could use the gazebo’s location to determine its shape, but it comes down to preference and creative vision. Certainly, there are some shapes better suited for particular functions, such as rectangular and square gazebos for hot tubs. Your choice of shape won’t have a huge impact on the gazebo aside from minor details, such as a number of posts and square footage.'

Lighting is a great way to set the ambiance, but it’s important to carefully study the location of the lights and the effect you want them to have,' says Annabelle Luce, UK communications manager for ManoMano. Permanent gazebos provide a great solution for shelter in the garden and can extend your living space to the outdoors. Polycarbonate is plastic and does not require maintenance as wooden gazebos do. The key benefit of Polycarbonate roofing is that it allows light through whilst preventing the harmful UV rays from going through the roof. Will it be used for large gatherings are smaller ones? Is it meant to be an intimate setting or one to hold many people? Now that you know what you want to use the gazebo for, its location, and its shape, you should be able to pin point a size that works for your needs. The two largest factors that will play into the structure’s size, however, are the function and location.'The most common shapes available for gazebos include octagonal, square, oval, rectangular, and dodecagonal. Some shapes may only be available in specific sizes, and vice versa, so be sure to ask the manufacturer if your shape is available in the size your project requires.' How big or small should the gazebo be? Take the six triangular corner cutoffs you made earlier and glue and nail them to the top hexagon to serve as rafters. Center each triangle on the layout lines and make sure the outer tips meet the outer corners of the cedar walls. This is really up to you,' says Samuel Stoltzfus, president, and general manager, Country Lane Gazebos. We do recommend, before any metal gazebo is erected and bolted into position, to add spacers to the ground which will allow air to circulate below the gazebo. Don’t let the weather ruin your chances of relaxing outdoors, integrate a steel gazebo into your outdoor space and extend your garden enjoyment. Whether you need a sheltered area to entertain your friends and family, or a place to relax on the weekend, you’re sure to find a robust, yet elegant structure to infuse into your garden.

The origin of the word gazebo is unknown, possibly a combination of 'gaze', with a latin derived ending. Pavilions, belvederes, follies, pergolas and rotundas all fit within the general umbrella term of gazebo, which is essentially astructure, usually round or octagonal with open views of the surroundings. Gazebos were popular in the 19th Century and were constructed in many styles and in varied materials, from Chinese influenced latticework and copper roofs, to rustic intertwined wood branch construction. Many of the more important Victorian iron foundries produced a range of ornate cast iron 'bandstand' style gazebos, which can still be seen in manypublic parks. Original complete gazebos are rare to find, but we usually have a range of quality reproduction gazebosin timber and metal. Some clients prefer to build their own take on a garden room, using reclaimed components sourced from us. The smallest gazebo would be somewhere around 8’ x 8’, generally determined by the shape. The largest sizes are upwards of 20’ x 40’ in rectangles and ovals, or even a 30’ dodecagon, and of course, there are many gazebo size variations and dimensions between those. The shape will limit available sizes in most cases, but you can always ask if a certain shape and set of dimensions is feasible.' How to create ambiance in a gazebo Start by cutting the top and bottom panels and six walls. First cut two 12-1/2 in. by 14-1/2-in. rectangles out of 3/4-in. plywood. Most home centers will cut the plywood to size for you. Mark, then cut off the corners as shown in the photo with step 1 and Figure A (in Project PDFs below). Save six of the triangles, which will become the roof rafters a few minutes down the road. Use a jigsaw (or a circular saw) to cut six 10-in. wall sections from a 1×8 cedar board (actual width, 7-1/4 in.).
