If I'm being honest, the faith aspect here was a little deus ex machina. While there have been small threads woven throughout, the culmination seemed forced. And I'm not sure that all the content that was included in the earlier novels was worth wading through to make it to this point. I thought I knew the man I committed myself to, but more questions continue to arise. I don’t know if Alexander is who he says he is. Writing collectively as David James Warren, USA Today bestselling author Susan May Warren, award-winning author James L. Rubart, and new voice, David C. Warren, are the creators of THE TRUE LIES OF REMBRANDT STONE. Highly recommend if you enjoy time-traveling detective stories with high stakes, action and a love that spans decades.

This is an excellent example of a queer story written well in part because it's by a queer author. It's easy for a cishet author to try to queer a traditional romance story by taking classic beats like a meet-cute and a third-act breakup and making them between people who are not cishet -- taking the old thing and giving it a new paint job. But the beats of a queer romance may be quite different, especially in a historical setting. There's a subtle process of not only finding out whether the other party is queer, but also finding out whether they even know that queer is an option. I have read some lovely gay romances by straight writers, but there's a fundamental truth to stories written by people who inhabit the experiences they are writing that is nigh-upon impossible to duplicate from the outside. This book should have been everything I ever wanted. 18th century gentle, slow burn gay romance involving a vampire and his secretary, with autism and ADHD rep, it seemed as if it could hardly be more up my alley if it tried. And it’s always a bitter disappointment when a book that seems perfect for you…isn’t. That, I believe, is the heart of man. Not declarations, not speeches, no, but the softest word spoken in the softest whisper, to one’s companion after a night of revelry has dwindled down to the tender dawn that follows it.Henry Coffey, a vampire, hires a young man called Theophilius Essex as his secretary. Theophilius is quiet, dilligent, and proper almost to a fault, while Henry is friendly, never shuts up, and is intent on trying to coax Theophilius into expressing any sort of opinion. Over the course of the book, we slowly watch their relationship develop and Theo open up a little as he starts to trust Henry. He wasn't supposed to be there when I fell. I wasn't supposed to get lost in a sea of sapphire blue when he helped me up. And he wasn't supposed to be Alexander Stone, the New York billionaire real estate tycoon. If I had one wish this Christmas, it would be to give Krystina what she desperately wanted more than anything—a baby.I don't know what it is, but I have learned that I can live with the past mistakes much easier than without the blessings of today.”

an unerring focus on what makes two people come to love each other - the way the book draws out the relationship between Henry and Theophilus is excruciatingly beautiful Breen, Nadia (May 20, 2022). Historical/paranormal with neurodivergent gays in love, and so much goddamn yearning (I only wished for more time when they were actually together but like!!! Excellent anyway). I love Theophilus Essex so much 😭💕 I’ve taken a few days off before writing my final review on this book because I just had to gather all of my thoughts together. Today I have that feeling, you know the one, where you waited so long for something, and now that you have it...that bittersweet what now feeling? The story itself was good so it could’ve worked perfectly without the racism. I just don’t understand why this author felt the need to destroy his work. Overall, I would not recommend reading this book.

Before I started working on the movie, I spoke with Gal, and we both believed the core tenet of what we wanted to achieve was an action thriller grounded in reality.”

But I will tell you that there were tears and anguish… and there was joy! My heart broke, my heart smiled… there were bittersweet moments and there was closure! And that IS all I’m going to say!! 😊😍 The use of AI as the center MacGuffin in the movie feels quite timely, especially now that there is so much talk about Artificial Intelligence and its benefit or harm to society and how the technology may ultimately replace us and actually destroy the value of human labor. So, is ‘Heart of Stone’ based on a true story, a book, or anything similar?
