I mean who wants to see Cardan and Nicasia together?!?!?! I wanted more JURDAN moments.🥺😭 Instead there were like about 2-3(?) short stories on them out of 11??? The next morning, Cardan learns that his brother was killed by Jude in a duel. Orlagh arrives to have Cardan account for why her Ambassador was killed. Cardan accepts no blame because it was not his wish for his brother to die. Orlagh knows it was Jude and demands justice. She threatens war, and he threatens to use his powers over nature that being the High King of Elfhame grants him. He can control the land under all of the water, and to prove this, he creates a new island to emerge from the water. As he does this, Cardan traps Nicasia in a tree, and Orlagh relents in exchange for Cardan releasing her daughter. Cardan requests Nicasia stay behind on the land to serve as an ambassador. To further appease Orlagh and maintain peace with the Undersea, Cardan exiles Jude to the mortal world. She protests that he cannot do this because she is the Queen of Elfhame, but she is laughed at and dismissed. Ultimately, Jude goes to live with Vivi and Oak in the mortal world. But anyways, I'm going to go cry into oblivion because I feel like a fool and I hate that I disliked this and now writing this out I want to rate the book lower because I realized that I like it much less than I thought I did. I'm so disappointed, especially since it's also my fault for not liking this because of my stupid head and brain, and I honestly hate myself for it.

For me, the death threats from the prince only enhanced my love for him, I felt he was misunderstood and it further confirmed my theory of a fine line between love and hate. My sister thinks that she’s the only one who can take poison, but I am poison,” he whispers, eyes half-closed, talking to himself. “Poison in my blood. I poison everything I touch.” Cardan had trusted Nicasia not to hurt him, which was ridiculous, since he well knew that everyone hurts one another and that the people you loved hurt you the most grievously. Since he was well aware that they both took delight in hurting everyone else that they could, how could he have thought himself safe? Lì si ama o li si odia. also the amount of conversations that the characters all apparently had but we’re not privy to them drove me insane😭 no wonder im not convinced of the connections and the depth of the story when you don’t show me them all bonding?! it’s likely why i wasn’t attached to anyone or convinced of the depth of the characters and the their dynamics.Così continuai imperterrita. Dopo qualche capitolo le cose iniziano a movimentarsi, e l'autrice è molto brava nel mettere i colpi di scena (anche esagerandoli un poco) a fine capitolo, dandoti la sensazione di febbrile eccitazione che tutti noi lettori vogliamo provare mentre leggiamo una storia. his rules toward Cardan after that, allowing him to do what he wished so long as he didn’t draw the ire of their father. That spring, Elfhame bustled with preparations for a state visit from Queen Orlagh and had little time to consider an errant prince anyway. There were whispers that if Orlagh, known for her brutal and swift conquests over her rivals in the Undersea, didn’t already control everything beneath the waves, she soon would. And she had announced that she wanted to foster her daughter on land. In the High Court of Elfhame. An honor. And an opportunity, if someone was clever enough to exploit it. Orlagh hopes the girl will marry one of Eldred’s offspring, Prince Cardan overheard a courtier say. And then the queen will scheme to make that child the next ruler of Elfhame, so her daughter, Nicasia, may rule land and sea. After which, the spouse will likely meet with an accident, put in another. NO SPOILER, ovviamente) The Folk adore Cardan, and they’re terrified of my sister, two excellent things. I hope they rule Elfhame for years and then pass it down to one of a dozen offspring. No need for me to be involved.”

Not gonna lie, I was expecting to meet older Jude and Cardan, but they were only just mentioned 𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗥‼️ But you know what? I didn't miss them as much as I thought I would. This book was both everything and nothing at the same time. Everything because um it's Cardan Greenbriar???🥰 Unfortunately, as a university student, I can't buy all the books I wish to read in one go, so I waited and waited until one of my closest friends handed me the other two (I had to read 'How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories' in a pdf file, I will be buying the whole collection, unfortunately, can't do it just now) so I took my copy of TCP and the other two books with me to my family summer vacation. I re-read TCP, which took me 2/3 days since I was early morning and afternoon on the beach, and the other two I started and finished on the same day, yes I stayed home all day and read, best vacation day by far. TWK in the morning, TQON in the afternoon, physically couldn't put them down, even forgot to eat.The book is a collection of short stories organized into nine chapters, which are richly illustrated. The chapters include stories from Cardan's early childhood, occurring before the main trilogy; stories occurring within the timespan of the trilogy, told from Cardan's point of view; and stories occurring after the events of The Queen of Nothing. Overall, it's an okay-ish read but I would recommend not reading it immediately after The Folk of the Air series.

The JudeCardan mentions were my only respite. If I do read the next book, it'd be only for them istg. Don't even get me started on the romance because was there any romance???!? It felt so forced, so disappointing, to say the least. Like I said, I wasn't expecting JudeCardan level chemistry but gimme something here ffs. How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories is an illustrated novella following Cardan Greenbriar, during many different stages in his life, while we slowly see all the different things that shaped him cruelly. The sound that left me when I opened this book and realized we were going to get present day with Jude from Cardan’s POV… be still, my hopes and dreams and heart. En fin, 🙈 podría seguir escribiendo más razones por las cuales estoy enamorada de estos libros, pero sería más larga la nota 🤭.Cardan is such a fun character and reading from his perspective provided all new insight into his decisions and motivations. I love him now more than ever. This is a story and a journey involving, among others, Wren / Suren and Oak / The Prince of Elfhame, an emotional one, a coming of age, and a mission to return 'Mellith's heart which requires a physical journey and one where battles are numerous and the terrain is unforgiving.

i ultimately feel like this could have been fleshed out waaaaay more. this felt like a rough first draft and not a finished manuscript ready for publication. Plus there’s his romantic relationship with Nicasia and how he tries to convince himself that he could rule with her in the Undersea. I also liked getting to know just what happened for the relationship to end and why Cardan stopped caring for her. Vivi appartiene a quel mondo, mentre le due gemelle sono completamente umane. tale books we read when we were little with witches, trolls and that one person - who was both hero and villain. That being said, the illustrations were G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S. Eldred Greenbriar: Former high king; Father to Balekin, Elowyn, Dain, Rhiya, Caelia and Cardan; Killed by BalekinIn a time of typewriters and steam engines, Iris Winnow awaits word from her older brother, who has enlisted on the side of Enva the Skyward goddess. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. At home, she writes cathartic letters to her brother, never posting them but instead placing them in her wardrobe, where they vanish overnight. One day Iris receives a reply, which, along with other events, pushes her to make dramatic life decisions. Magic plays a quiet role in this story, and readers may for a time forget there is anything supernatural going on. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. It flirts with clichéd tropes but also takes some startling turns. Main characters are assumed White; same-sex marriages and gender equality at the warfront appear to be the norm in this world.
