Description

Summertime in the Granite City, the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and the morgue is getting crowded: burnt bodies, murdered junkies, dismembered Labradors, and battered prostitutes. Pulled in by Logan, the man is jailed despite his protestations of innocence and apparent true love for Rosie. Digging deeper into the developer’s background, Logan links the man to the same politician who criticized DI Steel’s handling of the Williams case. Blatant endangerment of a friend that has ill consequences - well it's not your fault, you didn't do the harm yourself. It starts with Rosie Williams, a prostitute, stripped naked and beaten to death down by the docks - the heart of Aberdeen's red light district.

Logan pushes it too far, though, and the newsman is brutally attacked after introducing Logan to a powerful land developer. Stuart MacBride's characteristic grittiness, gallows humour and lively characterization are to the fore in his unputdownable second novel, confirming his status as the rising star of crime fiction. Most remarkable, though, is the way MacBride weaves several subplots into the story and ultimately ties them into the main plot to produce a truly realistic police procedural. It starts with Rosie Williams, a prostitute, stripped naked and beaten to death down by the docks -- the heart of Aberdeen's red light district. I don't mind gritty, but the general tenor of these books makes Aberdeen sound like the most disgusting place on earth.

Logan, on the other hand will do just about whatever it takes to get out of this squad and back into his former squad. I know there are some who don’t like this story for its darkness, but I live for a gritty tale like this. Very, very well written with both a good story and some excellent character development, at times the writing can be a tad gruesome but it does fit the mood of the book and didn't in anyway put me off. All in all this was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend it strongly to any fans of the crime genre. Logan is naturally desperate to get off the team as soon as possible and sees the current investigation into murdered prostitutes as his way of doing it.I feel almost guilty describing it that way given its content, but it is fun watching these guys work.

Finally, the best murder mysteries are ones in which the reader cares about the victims an/or the investigators and/or is interested in the twists and revelations. A hideous arsonist is at large targeting innocent people in in their homes and then nailing the door to their escape route shut. This series won't appeal to everyone - the violence and torture scenes are somewhat graphic, the characters and setting often quite gloomy. Because of consequences from his last case he has been re-assigned from DI Insch’s team to DI Steel’s team. Those who like their crime thrillers diamond hard need look no further than Stuart MacBride … He has few equals in this area’ Independent --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Speaking of bleak, a warning to those who are not keen on graphic descriptions of the baddies’ deeds. DI Steel knows this is her chance to shine if she plays her cards right as she knows Logan is actually a good copper. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. His boss in this episode was so disgusting and ever present that i could almost smell her chain smoked cigarettes.
