Both these ladies can also ride on a Cauldron of Blood, which grant additional abilities new abilities, in addition to using what their on-foot variant can do. Returning are Bladed Impact does D3 mortal wounds on the charge on a 2+, and Bloodshield, which grants +1 to save within aura range (Which diminishes as it takes damage). The new Idol of Worship ability grants +1 to chants within 9″, which is a huge boon. Otherwise, it’s just generally better in combat, you no longer need to chant to wake up the Avatar, so it can contribute to damage much more frequently. Losing the unbind is a minor issue, but +1 to chants means your prayers will be going off on a 2+, which is crucial to the success of Daughters. Khaine as he is worshiped by the Dark Elves is described as a god of murder. This suits the harsh society of Dark Elves, who view any sign of weakness as a fatal flaw. Holidays dedicated to Khaine, such as the Harvest of Souls and Death Night, invariably involve killing. Fueled by the social Darwinism of Dark Elf culture, devotees of Khaine elevate killing to an art form and will gladly kill anyone -- friend or foe -- who displays vulnerability. By sacrificing an Exarch to Khaine on the eve of battle, this newborn Avatar of Khaine becomes a fiery, animated manifestation of the God, including the blood dripping from his hands, and the Avatar leads the Aeldari army of that Craftworld into battle.

Now let’s take a look at the size and scale clues Games Workshop gave us in their preview of the new Plastic Avatar model. Retreat and charge. Super simple but very good. It gives you a lot of tactical flexibility, lets you keep hitting what you want to be hitting in combat without getting bogged down by something else. That’s it, nothing else, no special battleline or anything. Khailebron Starting out with the model image in the top left, we can match up all the teaser video screen caps to more or less confirm this as legit! The fire/armor image looks like it was his knee, with everything else being pretty obvious. We’ve tried hard here to offer fair critique, since no model is perfect, but it’s hard to escape the overall conclusion that in the grand scheme of things these are quibbles around the edges. This is a fantastic kit, a pleasure to build for 99% of the time you will spend building it, and it’s a great canvas for hobbyists to put their own spin on and really sink some hours into producing an impressive centrepiece to their Asuryani.

New Avatar of Khaine Datasheet & Model Spotted

The astute among you will know this is actually the fourth version of the Avatar GW has done; there was a very small one in Rogue Trader, the classic 2nd edition metal which this one replaces after 25+ years of service, and the Forge World resin version. In our opinion, the new plastic is the best of the bunch; like other recent releases (Mephiston springs to mind) it’s very closely based on the ancient concept art, which modern plastics can now realise in a way that just wasn’t possible at the time. Many scholars believe him to be a manifestation of the Eldar's racial passion as manifested in battle and warfare. "Kaela Mensha" is not technically part of Khaine's name, but is a title he bears. It roughly translated to "bloody-handed", a reference to the blood that eternally drips from his hands as a reminder of his murder of the ancient Eldar hero, Eldanesh. The word Khaine signifies the essence of murder. Unfortunately, they leave out the base sizes, which for the most part are 40mm except the 1991 and 1995 Avatar models which are on 25mm. Sweating already? That’s not just the heat emanating from his blistering body. The Wailing Doom – or Suin Daellae , for the Aeldari amongst you – is the Avatar’s signature weapon. With its edge honed by Vaul and its balance tested by Asuryan, all three forms of this divine weapon are thirsty for blood.* It’s an awesome outcome. When you’re designing, you have something in your head – how close you get to that can almost be random, sometimes. But this is the best iteration of the Avatar we’ve ever done. This character has been around almost since Rogue Trader.

By comparing base size to models around the new plastic Eldar Avatar it is most likely 6″ in height if it is on a 100 or 105mm base. The Yncarne, the Avatar of Ynnead, the Whispering God, surrounded by the souls of departed Aeldari. Even though he’s now crossed the Rubicon Primaris, the Ultramarines’ head honcho finds himself dwarfed by this new incarnation of the Avatar. Taking the initiative, Calgar unleashed hell, but his bolt rounds failed to make so much as a dent. He then pummelled away on the charge with his mighty gauntlets, barely scraping together a single point of damage.

This sub faction gets a unique command ability instead of an innate effects. It can also only be used by one of your Khailebron Heroes as well. Using it on themselves or any other friendly Khailebron unit within range (the normal wholly within 12” or 18” if Totem or General) and remove that unit; set it up more than 9” away from enemy units anywhere on the table. Teleporting abilities are very strong, but, this is not a very slow army either. Finally, two for priests. Blood Sigil is mediocre, gives you an extra prayer but not an extra chant (of course), you’re usually going to be awash in priests so you don’t need another prayer on hand, Khainite Pendant could see some play, once per battle it makes a Prayer automatically succeed, no roll required. Save it for a key moment. Credit: Dan Richardson Lore of Shadows (Spells) When war approaches, the Aeldari choose a bold warrior from among their Exarchs, a member of their race with the will and courage to embody the Aeldari's own skill at arms and thirst for victory. Known as the "Young King," this chosen warrior is taken to the deep chambers where the Avatar's shell resides and in a secretive and complex ritual is given over, mind, body, and soul to Khaine, so that his essence might fill the Avatar with life and give it the rage and power to go to war. Countless years later, long after Morathi had freed herself from the belly of her nemesis , she aided the new pantheon of aelven gods – Tyrion, Teclis, and Malerion – in ensnaring Slaanesh and slowly extracting the lost souls of their people. For her part in the deed, Morathi demanded a share of these souls. She drew forth the essence of those aelves who had once worshipped Khaine, installing herself as his High Oracle – his de facto replacement. During the events of the Broken Realms , and at the climax of a plan long in the making, Morathi performed a great sorcerous ritual to achieve the apotheosis she so craved, and in so doing, became the deity Morathi-Khaine. Apart from the added presence of making him properly daemon-sized, we didn’t want him too big. We wanted that George-versus-the-dragon thing of putting a smaller figure up against a much larger monster like the greater daemons of Chaos.

The Shining Spears also join the fray on their jetbike steeds, and they’re just itching for a joust. These agile airborne troops are harder to shoot at range, allowing them to zip into combat fast and hit hard with their formidable laser lances. The heated hulk strode forward through the onslaught, unleashing a flurry of seven Piercing Blows (dealing 1d6+2 damage each ) which peeled the Redemptor like an orange, sending its reactor into meltdown and causing a catastrophic explosion which the Avatar walked right through without breaking stride. The Redemptor rolled to go first, peppering the Avatar with high-yield munitions and landing one searing plasma bolt, which caused an almighty two wounds thanks to the Avatar’s ability to halve incoming damage. As with everything amongst the Aeldari, this event is highly ritualised to prevent any psychic overspill attracting the attention of Slaanesh. First, the Exarchs will choose amongst themselves who will be the Young King. The method of the choice differs from craftworld to craftworld. Some have the Exarchs rotating through the position during a fixed timespan, others see the Exarchs choose who amongst them will receive the honour just before the awakening by ritualised combat.Another Daughters of Khaine book already? Of all the factions to launch it certain is a strange choice, given they got one of the penultimate books to send off second ed. That was just barely over a year ago, by the way. A long time staple of the faction, this got a fairly intense overhaul. Largely it helps cut down on the number of rerolls (for which the faction had several) to replace them with +1 buffs instead. A downgrade with the new caps on rolls, but there are ways around it. Or at least that is what the Asuryani believed would happen for almost ten thousand standard years. Then, in ca. 999.M41, during the Battle of Port Demesnus on the moon of Coheria, the High Farseer Eldrad Ulthran of Craftworld Ulthwé partially completed a ritual intended to awaken Ynnead using the power of the souls found in the Infinity Circuits of every craftworld in the galaxy. The Aeldari of the craftworld call forth the Avatar in times of dire need by sacrificing an Exarch to Kaela Mensha Khaine on the eve of battle. The Avatar becomes a fiery, animated manifestation of the god of war in the wake of this blood sacrifice and leads the Aeldari armies into battle. Khaine's precise nature in the Warhammer 40,000 cosmology remains undefined and contradictory, although due to his interaction with the Chaos Gods, he appears to be an entity of the Warp, although not one in nature like the Ruinous Powers.
