"More than just a PR stunt, Valentino's unveiling of its exclusive shade of Pantone pink during Fashion Week was a flash of genius," Taylor Tomasi Hill, creative and fashion director of AI shopping platform The Yes, tells BAZAAR.com of the collection . "'Valentino Pink PP' might be the most recognizable shade, but pinks in general are seeing a resurgence—and it's so much more interesting than the same-old millennial pink."

What colourimetries can wear fuchsia? The numbers prove hot pink's dominance: On the fashion shopping app Lyst, searches for pink items have increased by 24 percent in the past month—with a spike following the aforementioned Valentino show. The fastest-growing categories range from blazers (+34 percent) to dresses (+16 percent) to bags (+45 percent). Google Shopping stats echo those trends in an outside voice: Nationwide searches for hot-pink bathing suits, minidresses, designer shoes, and earrings all increased by more than 100 percent over the past month. Pantone said 2022 would be the year of periwinkle: a soft, soothing shade giving baby blanket vibes. Maybe we could have used a swaddling palette after the past two turbulent years, but the breakout color trend of 2022 couldn't be farther away in spirit. It turns out fashion designers wanted something brighter, bolder, more energetic: They wanted hot pink.
