This is a book that takes you to the dark heart of the criminal justice system. They are all here - the good, the bad, the innocent and the guilty. I haven't enjoyed a legal thriller this much since Grisham's The Firm' Tony Parsons Rinder, who specialised in international fraud but also took on wider cases – he represented British soldiers charged with manslaughter after the deaths of Iraqi detainees – would often be “the de facto decision-maker on an extremely important decision. Would there be moments where I’d be in that room thinking: ‘What are you asking me for?’ Of course.”

There’s something enormously powerful about standing between the individual and the power of the state’ … Robert Rinder. Photograph: Antonio Olmos/The Guardian Overall, I was thoroughly entertained and thought this was an impressive debut novel. I certainly hope this novel is the beginning of a new series and I look forward to reading more from the author in the future. Energetic, warm, laced with humour with a truly inventive mode of murder' Sarah Vaughan, author of Anatomy of a Scandal Connelly, Thomas (25 July 2016). "Judge Rinder lifts lid on judicial life in new radio show". Legal Cheek . Retrieved 7 September 2016.This is a book that takes you to the dark heart of the criminal justice system. They're all here - the good, the bad, the innocent and the guilty. I haven't enjoyed a legal thriller this much since Grisham's The Firm' Tony Parsons The Trial is Rob's debut novel and features Adam Green, a trainee barrister working under his pupil master. When he is assigned his first murder case, it is literally the most high profile case around. Tasked with defending the alledged murderer of Grant Cliveden, policeman/spokesman and all round supercop, who is the nations hero after saving the life of the Queen. Adam is determined to prove his clients innocence despite all the evidence against him and his pupil masters obvious feelings about the case. While practising as a barrister, Rinder wrote television scripts in his spare time. Upon attempting to sell one, he met producer Tom McLennan. [15] He approached ITV with a proposal for a remake of the 1970s programme Crown Court, but this was rejected in favour of a British version of Judge Judy, and McLennan offered Rinder the opportunity to front it. [16] [15] Between 2014 and 2020, he has been the eponymous judge in the reality courtroom series Judge Rinder, where he has been referred to as a British Judge Judy. [16] This is a new take on the legal thriller, through the eyes of a trainee barrister and Adam is an interesting character. Young, enthusiastic, determined and dedicated to the truth and justice, we follow Adam's journey through the courtcase and what Adam has to endure as someone who doesn't quite fit it.

Hogan, Michael (3 September 2016). "Strictly Come Dancing launch: don't rule out Ed 'Disco' Balls's stompy dancing yet – plus 10 more things that happened". The Telegraph . Retrieved 4 September 2016. It is a great read but I found the caricature style and overblown description jarring. The plot and pace would have lost nothing by reining in the lowest common denominator factor.... eg An exciting start to what promises to be an excellent series, with an appealing central character' The Guardian I didn't know what to expect when I requested this book. I knew the courtroom drama would give the exact detail as Rob (Robert) Rinder used to be a barrister and judge. I was not disappointed. I loved this murder mystery. I was completely invested from the beginning. There was plenty of twists to keep you guessing. I really liked Rob's writing style and he brings with it his personal experiences as a criminal barrister. It's not often you hear of a murder at the Old Bailey, especially a policeman. This book gives a good insight into the justice system. The characters are well portrayed. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The only thing that's certain is that this is a trial which will push Adam - and the justice system itself - to the limit . . .

Whilst I accept that life at the Bar involves public school attitudes, stressful working relationships and mixing with the criminal world, I somehow thought Rinder would try and rise above this. From September 2016, Rinder competed in the fourteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing, stating that he was doing so to make his grandmother proud of him. [25] Rinder was partnered with Ukrainian-born professional dancer Oksana Platero. [26] Rinder was eliminated in week 11 after scoring 31 points dancing a Samba to " Oh, What a Night". He ended the competition in fifth place. Adam has personal reasons for trying to clear Jimmy’s name despite his guilt seeming to be obvious and he works hard to find out the truth of the case before trial. He learns that the deceased was not quite as saintly as he first appeared. Pupil barrister Adam Green is on Jimmy’s defense team headed by his pupil master Jonathan Taylor-Cameron, who would rather Jimmy plead guilty so that he could devote his attention to more high-paying clients. Though his pupil master is leaning toward establishing reasonable doubt, Adam is convinced of Jimmy’s innocence and tries to gather evidence that would prove the same often attracting the ire of his pupil master who is happy to let Adam shoulder most of his caseload while he pursues other interests. BBC Studios announces Rob Rinder as new co-presenter of Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby". BBC Studios . Retrieved 4 November 2022.

As the narrative progresses, it becomes evident that the “pride of the nation” might not have been the honest, hardworking member of law enforcement he was made out to be. This is a high-profile case and the first major case that Adam has been assigned. Adam is in the second six stage of his pupillage and his future at the Chambers is at stake. Is Jimmy truly innocent or is Adam being played by a career criminal? Will his pursuit of the truth end up jeopardizing Adam’s career prospects? Really good. . . Nicely paced with characters that are fully formed, I hope there's more to come from Adam' Press Assocation Buerk, Michael (20 June 2016). "Who is Judge Rinder? Meet ITV's reality TV judge and Britain's answer to Judge Judy". Radio Times . Retrieved 7 September 2016. Rinder still practises law to the extent that he lectures, offers advice to some organisations and mentors young barristers. But he seems more keen to use his profile to highlight issues he cares about. “The reason I make documentaries is because I’m convinced, especially with social media, that political points of view have moved from the logical to the emotional hemisphere of the brain. That’s exacerbated by echo chambers.” People with an opposing view, he says, “interfere with your sense of identity and safety. So how can you have a conversation with goodwill?” He wants more listening, “to say: ‘I hear you’, and mean it. To say: ‘Let me tell you a story.’”Rinder is the patron of Buttle UK and, in this capacity, has run The London Marathon, as well as launching [39] The Italian Job 2018 at The NEC, Birmingham on 10 November 2017. Rinder was born in London on 31 May 1978 [3] into a Jewish family; [4] [5] his mother is Angela Cohen, chair of the 45 Aid Society. [6] He was brought up in Southgate and was educated at Osidge Primary School, Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet [7] [8] and the National Youth Theatre. Rinder later gave up acting because his peer and later close friend, Benedict Cumberbatch, "was so good". [9] Rinder studied politics and modern history at the University of Manchester, graduating with first-class honours. [8] [10] Career [ edit ] Legal [ edit ] Robert Rinder joins Classic FM to present a new six-part special series". Classic FM . Retrieved 2 August 2021.

In 2010, Rinder went to the Turks and Caicos Islands as counsel to a team investigating and prosecuting allegations of fraud and corruption. Bored at the weekends, he started writing scripts. He worked with a production company and went to meet a commissioning editor at ITV. She thought his script was terrible – but she liked Rinder and asked if he would do his own Judge Judy-type reality court show. When hero policeman Grant Cliveden dies from a poisoning in the Old Bailey, it threatens to shake the country to its core.
