Description

We tested the 27 inch ASUS ProArt Display PA278CV, which replaces the ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV and is the only size available for this particular model. That said, there are a number of closely related models in the ProArt series, including a 24 inch 1080pand a 27 inch 4k model, as well as more professionally-oriented models. You can see the differences between some of them below. Model Adobe RGB (1998) is a color space, developed by Adobe Systems in 1998. It has a wider gamut than the sRGB (mainly in the cyan-green range of colors) and is widely used in professional printing. The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. The percentage of the approximate area, taken by the active part of the screen, to the total front area.

Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen. The maximum number of colors, which the display is able to reproduce, depends on the type of the panel in use and color enhancing technologies like FRC. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. Build quality for the Asus PA278CV is as expected, excellent since there are no cosmetic defects and every panel meets without any gaps. The device feels sturdy even if it’s mostly made out of plastic just like the brand’s other premium products. We also didn’t notice any wobbling from the stand since it’s capable of holding the monitor up properly.ProArt Display PA279CV, PA278CV, and PA247CV feature extensive connectivity for compatibility with numerous devices and media sources. Connectivity options include an HDMI port, DisplayPort, and a USB C port which offers superfast data transfers, DisplayPort support, and 65 watt power delivery to charge devices. The USB-C connection enables users to connect to a laptop and enjoy full USB-C functions via a single cable. These monitors also have a USB hub with four USB 3.1 ports to support multiple device connections and enable creators to work more efficiently. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality.

The Asus PA278CV’s response time is great compared to other editing monitors we’ve seen in recent months. Blurs and smudges are minimal so using a bit of overdrive or its Trace-Free setting can help make them unnoticeable. We only recommend the 40 level since anything higher will induce overshoot. Information about the minimum amount of time, in which the pixels change from one color to another. Very often the manufacturer provides the response time for transition from grey-to-grey (G2G). Approximate height of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the height is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio.

Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases. The ASUS ProArt PA278CV and PA247CV are professional IPS monitors with convenient features. Tailored for professionals who work in the creative industry, the monitors provide an impressively accurate display for high-end projects like graphic designing, video making, and photo editing. The monitors deliver true colour accuracy and express rich true-to-life colours on the screen. They have pre-set colour modes and you can shuffle through these colour settings for your desired photo, video, and creative projects. The intuitive design of these monitors saves your desk from cluttering because it has an integrated USB port panel for media, file, and document transfers. This panel also affords you a 65 W charging power with Type-C compatible devices. Built-in 2 W stereo speakers eliminate the need to install more and further keeps your desk free and spacious. Optimise your workflow with these efficient and feature-rich monitors. We like that the Asus PA278CV still includes built-in speakers despite the bevy of features it already offers. The bad news is it’s the same old 2-watt pair the brand uses on most of its monitors. They aren’t capable of good sound quality, especially when the volume is turned up. Display and Performance

Information about the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. A higher resolution allows the display of a more detailed and of higher quality image. Ergonomics Information about the ergonomic functions - height adjustment, swivel angles, tilt angles, etc. VESA mount ASUS today announced the availability of ProArt Display PA279CV, PA278CV, and PA247CV. The three new factory-calibrated monitors are Calman Verified and offer Delta E 2 color accuracy with 100% sRGB and 100% Rec.709 color spaces. Available in a range of sizes and panel types, the monitors offer extensive connectivity with USB C (with 65-watt power delivery), DisplayPort, HDMI, and a USB hub to cater to content-creator workflows. The 27-inch ProArt PA279CV and PA278CV offer a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) panel and WQHD (2560 x 1440) panel, respectively; and ProArt PA247CV features a 23.8 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) panel. Often even a higher peak luminance can be achieved under certain conditions. For example, when a smaller area/APL of the display is used for showing a bright object, when a bright object is displayed for a short time, etc. The Asus PA278CV is a FreeSync monitor and it also supports G-Sync even if it’s not certified by Nvidia. It’s nice to have VRR for times when you want to play games at ultra settings without worrying about tearing and stuttering. Input lag sits at 8ms at 75Hz, so there is no need to worry about de-synced instances or delays while gaming. Thoughts on the Asus PA278CVCalibrating the Asus PA278CV resulted in a superb dE average of only 0.34 which is quite close to a perfect score. The screen’s colors look photo-realistic so there is no need to spend on a higher-tiered model unless you need wider gamut coverage. Most users won’t need to buy a colorimeter, but it will work great if you already have one. Desktop monitors and smart TVs experience a latency/lag in visualizing the information. The time in milliseconds that the display needs to visualize the signal input. The Asus PA278CV renders 100% of the sRGB and around 80% Adobe RGB which are excellent for a prosumer display in this price range. Default accuracy has a deltaE average of only 1.24 which isn’t perfect but is still great for editing work. It’s far from comparable to high-end editing monitors, but the screen is decently tuned and great for budding artists.
