Description

Dynamic HDR: Dynamic HDR enables a noticeable progression in overall video image quality from SDR to static HDR, and now static HDR to dynamic HDR. Dynamic HDR support ensures every moment of a video is displayed at its ideal values for depth, detail, brightness, contrast, and wider color gamuts on a scene-by-scene or even a frame-by-frame basis. Dynamic HDR enhanced content is available for movies, videos, TV shows, video and PC games and VR. Connectivity is good for the price. All six HDMI inputs support Dolby Vision, HLG, eARC and HDR10+, as well as VRR, QFT, ALLM and QMS. It's like an explosion in an acronym factory.

In terms of settings and extra features there is almost no change from last year so this part of our review remains very similar to what we had observed in the NR1710. We will make appropriate changes wherever we will deem necessary. Powering 50W per channel (8-ohm, 20Hz – 20kHz, 0.08% THD, 2ch. drive), enjoy your favourite movies in striking quality. Object-oriented audio support covers Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Of course not everyone has physical height speakers, so there's also Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization and DTS Virtual: X on hand to emulate a 3D listening experience, without the need for dedicated height speakers. There's another benefit from taking this 60fps approach, as it theoretically frees up the console to use more processing power for ray tracing and shadow detail, leading to superior image performance.

video resolution is supported, as is 4K / 120 Hz. And variable frame rate, and everything you need in today’s modern video and gaming world. Photo: Marantz 8K video and HDMI 2.1 Integrated ECO mode provides energy savings and an on-screen ECO meter. Use the receiver in power-saving mode to reduce maximum output power or adopt low-power strategies across settings. Either way, the sound quality that defines Marantz excellence remains unchanged.

We were always very fond of this slim-line series and this because they are exceptionally designed for those that want a fully featured AV receiver but don’t have the space for a full sized unit. As such the NR1711 offers an elegant solution that can fit almost anywhere and comes with an astonishing list of features that will surely please even the most demanding of users. Dynamic Volume: Audyssey Dynamic Volume features advanced psycho-acoustic processing to deliver clear dialog and wide range sound at reduced volume levels so that you can enjoy theater-level clarity at whatever listening level you choose. At half the height of a conventional AVR, the NR1711 is ideal if you’re pushed for space or simply balk at the sight of a full-size AV receiver. Standing just 105mm tall, it's around 50% the height (or less) of many of its rivals. This not only makes it easier on the eye but also means it slots in where many other AV receivers simply won't. Supports dual subwoofers for even, low-frequency bass response within your listening environment. Enjoy accurate bass with no audible peaks or dips no matter where you place your subwoofer. The NR1711 is a 7.2-channel receiver with 90 watts of power delivered per channel. Like the Cinema 70s, the NR1711 supports Dolby Atmos, DTS :X, and Audyssey MultEQ room calibration. However, some additional unique features, such as Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization, can simulate height channels without needing physical speakers.

That rear panel has a good selection of inputs. There are six HDMI inputs, down one from last year. The trade-off for that is that the sixth HDMI input, and the HDMI output, now support 4K video up to 100 and 120Hz, and 8K video at 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60Hz. We understand that there may be some limits to those resolutions – possibly problems with HDR-encoded content at 4K/120Hz – due to limitations in the first generation of chips developed for these resolutions. We have not been able to test this. I can live with the 120hz issue for the time being as not got the new console, but for others out there I thought I would also share some experience of using the device for about a month.

CUSTOMER QUESTIONS

Network music was delivered with impressive clarity whether streamed using the receiver’s TIDAL functionality, or using the HEOS app to send music from our NAS drive. Lately we’ve been taken with something even older than ELP: Nina Simone’s inaugural LP from the late 1950s, Little Girl Blue. In remastered stereo form streamed from TIDAL, it was as though a portal had been opened up between our Australian office and a recording studio in 1959 America. With a dynamic transient delivery, this receiver has the sonic capabilities to drop bombs in every channel. You can also choose various inputs in the HEOS app. And if you have other HEOS devices, you can select from their inputs to play on this receiver and vice versa. HEOS is one of the few multiroom systems which permits this flexibility. Speaker calibration – the receiver talks you through this – is performed by Audyssey MultEQ. This did a good job of working out speaker distances, EQ requirements and speaker sizes. As always, make sure that you have Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ switched off, but in most cases you want to keep standard Audyssey MultEQ on. MultEQ equalises for your room and speaker characteristics. Dynamic EQ messes with the sound differently according to volume level in what we think is an unrealistic way. Immersive Surround Sound: The Marantz NR1711 AV receiver goes beyond regular surround with the latest immersive surround sound formats from Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The NR1711 offers 7-channels of amplification with support for up to a 5.1.2ch home theater speaker setup.
