I spoke to Shields last week via telephone from his studio in the Irish countryside to discuss yet another remaster of the record, this one a completely analog vinyl version due in January (along with an all-analog vinyl edition of My Bloody Valentine’s 1988 debut album, Isn’t Anything). Whilst I can't speak for the MPO pressing as I own a Townhouse (and I've heard the MPO sounds far more akin to the original CD), the Townhouse sounds more like all the instruments are balanced and mixed together equally, not putting particular emphasis on any given element and letting it all flow as one overwhelming wall of sound, compared to the 2021 reissue which emphasises certain elements more. Your immersion in the details of sound seems pretty all-encompassing—but you also play with possibly the loudest band that’s ever existed. Its unlike anything before or since with walls of screaming/droning guitar sitting on vocals which sound like they're being crooned gently into a bucket.
