Day seven: Job done – the cosmos and the earth complete. God takes abit of well-earned R&R and just enjoys. He makes an announcement:“Let’s keep this day of the week special, a day off – a battery-rechargeday: Rest Day.” I have actually read through some of this book. The shelf title is misleading, but then so is this book. I Love God's Word! I have learned, cried, grown, thrown, and laughed with it. Then by happenstance ( ha didn't know that was a word) this book fell into my hands after a now wonderful friend dropped me into teaching the 4th and 5th grade Bible school with some of the smartest, craziest kids I have ever been Blessed to know. These kid's were not about to set and read these papers that the Sunday school director gad given me to teach them and do the Q&A. They were all over the place. Nancy, the Lady that was training me was a smart cookie. She knew what she was doing. She had a rewards system, and I latched on to it and added to it. But I also started reading this book and found out that reading the Bible could be fun. (Well, Fun in a way that that kids with hormones and 2 minute attention spans found fun.) So, I took it to the school board meeting, and the director was not to happy about it, but the majority saw no problem using it as an aid. And the people to whom they are prophesying, Are cast into out-places of Jerusalem, Because of the famine, and of the sword, And they have none burying them, Them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, And I have poured out upon them this evil. And everyone who listens to them will be killed, just as they deserve. On a similar vein, his version of the Lord's prayer (Matthew 6:9-13 if anyone's interested), is absolutely awful. Again it is patronising, and ok it is in the vernacular but I have heard far better versions of it...which have been written by people with an understanding of both the Bible and of poetry/prayer. Many of these seriously annoyed me, because most of the time he's made things more complicated solely because he wants to avoid religious terminology...which is what the Bible's about in the first place. Day six: Then God says, 'Let's make people - like us, but human, with flesh and blood, skin and bone. Give them the job of caretakers of the vegetation, game wardens of all the animals.' So God makes people, like him, but human. He makes male and female (for the 'how', see later). He smiles at them and gives them their job description: 'Make babies! Be parents, grandparents, great-grandparents - fill the earth with your families and run the planet well. You've got all the plants to eat from, so have all the animals - plenty for all. Enjoy.'
