The airtight TPE seal around the cover edge fits snugly (maybe a bit too much) over the bottom palette tray.

The metallic areas on the backpack and weapons was done with a Leadbelcher base coat, a Nuln Oil wash and an edge highlight in Ironbreaker. Although I’m rarely seen using a wet palette in my videos, I do often use one in the preparatory stages of each tutorial whilst I’m experimenting with colours, and if I ever get the chance to paint for myself (which isn’t as often as I’d like! Why you would want to do this defies logic, but if you’re traveling, it would be possible to do so even while you have wet paint in the palette. For the past couple weeks, I have had the opportunity to test the new Everlasting Wet Palette from Redgrass Games. If you felt cramped by the smaller Everlasting wet palette, then you'll definitely appreciate the expanded room here. Now, this isn’t necessarily an issue if, like me, your hobby primarily takes place in one place: a study, a garage, or a swelteringly hot conservatory that’s been taken over by all your work from home junk. The foam that comes with the Everlasting wet palette is incredibly smooth but firm, and holds the water beautifully. You should have the palette itself, two hydration foam pads, a packet of hydration paper, the palette itself, a small magnetic ink holder that clips on to the edge of the palette, and an elasticated strap for keeping everything together. Also, the sticky tac is orange, and it is quite sticky, so I would be a bit afraid of it getting stuck on something and staining it, such as carpet or clothes. For years I didn’t use a wet palette because I always thought it was only for competition-level painters only, but I was completely wrong.

If the palette is not watertight, you always run the risk of having your paints or any excess water in the Everlasting Wet Palette dripping out into the bottom of whatever bag you transport your gear in. This wide selection of colours was from when I first used the Wet Pallette v2, and in my attempt to use it as quickly as possible, I used it incorrectly. While there was a tiny bit of paint still left on that I just couldn't get off, this seemed completely dry, and didn't contaminate the next set of paints that went on top of it at all.Redgrass Games have not only managed to improve the durability of their product, but also the quality and usability has gone up multiple levels. Serious creative and scientific thought has been spent trying to improve some of the perceived shortcomings of the previous palette, and these (tiny) annoyances have been duly addressed. Preparation of the palette paper was too much work and my paint dried out too fast and seeped through the paper. RGG’s Everlasting Wet Palette comes in three forms: a Starter set, a Painter set, and a Studio XL option.

For newer painters who are looking to try using a wet palette for the first time, or painters like myself who have had inconsistent results from other palettes (bought or home made) I think this is a terrific palette and I look forward to trying out the final product. Yes, after one week I noticed that paint color seeped through the palette paper and stained the other side of the membrane as well as the foam underneath. The drying time was getting a little faster every time and finally I decided to retire the palette (which coincided with me finishing the project I was working on). For other options with different features, you can see my review of other miniature painting handles.

The glossy surface makes the paint very easy to handle and mixing paints on it works really well as you can clearly see the dilution. RGG’s instructions state you should keep adding water until there is a thin layer of water sitting on top of the foam. It’s currently October 5th and the picture I took is a confirmation picture that the paint is still useable.

While you could just try and scrub it clean in a small pool of sitting water, I think you'd end up having a much harder time at it, as well as the water becoming dirty and hard to see through as the paint comes off. The rest of the painting process didn’t actually involve the wet palette all that much, but I kept using it for some of the smaller details on my intergalactic space crusaders. I was able to put the Khorne Red straight onto the weapons of my Assault Intercessors without any difficulties at all, and after a good four or five coats, the colour was really starting to look rather good. So, not only is the Everlasting Wet Palette forcing me to be a better painter, it’s also thinning my paints for me.

The only downside is that the glass palette can’t be covered inside the palette along with the wet palette feature. You’ll have to remove the hydration foam and paper to use the glass palette inside the plastic tray. If you like what we’re doing here you could really help encourage more content with a share on any social media platform. Suffice it to stay, my paints stayed consistent and predictable over a few days and I could come back day after day knowing that I didn’t have to fuss around with paint thickness each time. There are magnets on both the long and short edges of the palette, so you can attach it on whichever side suits you best – which is a nice touch.
