Moisturisers are helpful for all dry skin conditions, particularly eczema, which gets worse when the skin is allowed to dry out. Used regularly they help restore the skin's smoothness, softness and flexibility by helping the skin retain moisture. This reduces redness, scaling and itching. People hypersensitive to any of the ingredients may experience skin reactions, such as burning, itching, rash or redness of the skin. Stop using Hydromol ointment and see your doctor if your skin gets irritated after using it. Your skin feels dry, itchy and scaly when the outer layer of skin cells, known as the stratum corneum, loses too much water. The stratum corneum normally contains natural water-holding substances that retain water seeping up from the deeper layers of the skin. Water is also usually kept in the skin by a film of natural oil (sebum) and broken-down skin cells that slow down evaporation of water from the skin surface. If you are using medicines which are also to be applied to the skin you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Hydromol Cream as it might not be suitable to apply other topical preparations at the same time. Emollients are substances that are used to soften and moisturize the skin. They work by forming a protective barrier on the skin's surface, which helps to retain moisture and prevent the loss of natural oils. This can help to reduce irritation and inflammation, and promote healing of the skin. Emollients are often used to treat conditions such as eczema and other forms of dermatitis, which are characterized by dry, itchy, and scaly skin. By providing a source of moisture and reducing water loss from the skin, emollients can help to relieve these symptoms and improve the overall health and appearance of the skin. In addition to their moisturizing effects, emollients can also have a calming effect on the skin, which can help to reduce redness and irritation. What does Hydromol Ointment treat? If you have been prescribed Hydromol Ointment by a doctor or nurse follow his/her instructions on use. Reporting of side effects: If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed on this label. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at: www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard or search for MHRA Yellow Card in the Google Play or Apple App Store. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist If you're using Hydromol ointment to wash with, use it just as you would soap or shower gel. If you're using it as a bath additive, melt some of the ointment in some warm water in a small container and add this to the bath water. After washing, the skin should be patted rather than rubbed dry to avoid rubbing the oil off the skin.

However, unless otherwise directed by your doctor, it's best to leave about 30 minutes between applying your moisturiser and applying creams, ointments or lotions that contain a medicine, for example steroid or antibiotic creams. If you apply the moisturiser immediately before or after applying a medicated skin product, the moisturiser could dilute the medicine and potentially make it less effective. Yes - Hydromol ointment is not absorbed through the skin and is not known to be harmful if used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you're using it on your breasts just make sure you wash any residual ointment off before giving a feed. script>
