In-game performance is just fine. There’s not much to say about it, which is probably a good thing because it also means there isn’t really anything wrong with it. Maintenance Because of the great longevity of the glide itself (you don’t need to wash the pad a lot at all) it’s a bit of a bummer that there are no stitched edges to further reinforce the ‘this pad will last’ feeling, but that’s obviously always something that can be improved on in the future. The Logitech G640offers a (for a cloth pad) pretty fast glide while still offering more than enough stopping power and micro adjustment control, and it doesn’t require a whole lot of maintenance to keep it at that level either. The G640is, despite being advertised as a ‘moderate friction’ pad, pretty fast from what I’ve experienced. It’s difficult to actually rank individual cloth pads since the glide is influenced by any number of factors (mouse, mouse feet, humidity in the room, cleanliness, …) and even though I did put it down as a medium – fast pad (because it still has plenty of stopping power) it definitely leans more towards the faster side if you ask me.

The Logitech G640 focuses on control, which explains why it is a popular choice for pro gamers that spend more time with shooters such as Valorant and CSGO. Something that’s overlooked far too often if you’re asking us is the mousepad. Just like with mice, keyboards, and headsets, mousepads come in many different sizes and can have a lot of differences between them. That’s why it’s important that you get yourself a mousepad that suits your playing style. If you often find yourself overshooting your targets you might want to go for a more controlling pad, for example. If it’s speed you’re after there are pads that deliver just that as well. This might be a non-issue for many people, but if you will be using this mousepad on a lower-quality desk, you may want to consider the fact that you’re more likely to feel any lumps or bumps from the desk. The G640 is a large sized mousepad (there is also the smaller and thinner G240 and the desk sized G840) so it’s going to be ideal for gamers who play on a lower sensitivity or for players who just want a bit more mousepad real estate. The pad lays flat almost completely straight out of the box. I say ‘almost’ because there’s this very slight curve at either end of the pad which took a few hours to even out by itself. It didn’t really hamper my performance since the curve is very minimal and the thin nature (3mm) of the pad meant that the pad evened out by itself once my mouse got close to the curve, but it’s still something worth mentioning.

More control on your mousepad is great for precision and accuracy when aiming, so if you’re into those types of games more than anything else, then the G640 is a solid option. If you’re prioritizing speed, then you may want to look at other mousepads. In-game Optical resolution is a measure of maximum hardware sampling resolution, based on ISO 14473 standard. Professional shooter gamers might gravitate towards (more controlling) cloth pads, but there are droves of people out there who have a need for speed. If you’re one of those people then you should look at the SkyPAD 3.0. Its smooth surface is just about the fastest you can find out there, and while we certainly wouldn’t recommend this to people who are just finding their footing in the world of gaming mousepads it’s undoubtedly a pad that’s great at what it sets out to do. Either way: the glide of a mousepad is definitely its most important feature, and that’s where the G640delivers in spades. It’s also worth mentioning that the glide stays consistent for a long period of time. Some pads have this issue where they start to feel very murky and different from how they were when they were new, which means that you’ll have to cleanthe pad a whole lot, but the G640remained consistent all throughout my testing.That doesn’t mean that it’ll never need cleaning (every cloth pad will need a shower at some point) but it’s definitely a plus. Logitech G640 Review – Conclusion There are a couple of things we can deduce from looking at what the VALORANT pros are using: you’ll want a cloth pad of at least a large size to accommodate for the pretty low sensitivitythat VALORANT pros use. Between those there are a bunch of options, though. Not a lot of pros use speed-oriented pads but we do see a sizable portion go for control pads. Of course this largely depends on personal preference (and, truth be told, there aren’t a whole lot of true speed pads being made by the common manufacturers) but it’s interesting to note. This list is, as we mentioned before, based on what the professionals are using. What you’ll see here is that most pros are using fairly large mouse pads, at least when compared to regular office mats. That’s because the overall sensitivity/ eDPIof pro (shooter) players is way lower than that of most casual gamers. This gives them way more control over their aim and overall just makes for a more consistent and reliable aiming experience when compared to extremely high sensitivities where it’s nearly impossible to make any micro adjustments to the aiming reticle. Even if you feel like you don’t need a large mousepad we would recommend getting one if you have the space for it; it’s always better to have some spare space for your mouse movements than to have to run into the edge of your playing surface in the heat of battle.
