WOW! I just got this! ❤️🔭📚🙂 I am thrilled to say the least! Although a little contrived at times, the verse introduces ideas and topics with standard and extended vocabulary so that a young reader may develop language skills without being overwhelmed. Mother Earth is Weeping by Claire Donald is a inspirational book for KS1 and KS2 about respecting our environment. Perfect for your environment topic. Other great resources for you to try I was a primary school teacher (specialising in Early Years and Special Education) before becoming an author and I draw heavily on the experiences and knowledge gained during that time when writing my stories. Indeed many stories typically have an educational slant and are great resources for teaching and learning.

Mother Earth is Weeping by Claire Donald, Simon Taylor

Mother Earth is a goddess found in various different mythologies. She personifies the earth and is perceived as the giver and protector of life. This means that to hurt the earth is to hurt Mother Earth. Using Mother Earth can be a great way to help children understand ecological issues and the importance of protecting our environment. As is typical of many valley communities, my extended family live very close by. They all provide inspiration for my stories, including our mad dog Manny, Kipper the cat, and Bob 17 the goldfish. I also write about our horse Jenny, and her friends in the field and barn. This slim little book follows Mother Earth as she shares her worries with the moon about the negative environmental impact that people are having on the planet. Turning to the Sun, Mother Earth and the Moon are cheered by the Sun’s belief that there is capacity for the environmental damage to be reduced and reversed before it is too late. In particular, the efforts and decisions made by knowledgeable young people are highlighted as key to improving the environmental fortunes of the planet. Mother Earth Day is an annual international day to celebrate our amazing Earth, and share the message of the importance of reducing climate change and protecting our Earth from human destruction. As part of our Wonder Days theme week, I have planned a range of activities, with videos, photos and PowerPoints to help give you ideas.I wrote many plays, songs, poems and stories for my pupils and the school. But, it wasn't until a school's inspector read some of my work and encouraged me to publish them, that I even considered becoming an author. This is my new book suitable for ages 3-9 years. If your child loves football, this will be a great gift for Christmas. It is the first book in the series ‘Modern Day Myths and Tales of Wales’ Simon Taylor is a watercolour artist from the same town as Claire. After reading her stories he decided to move into illustration. They work closely together to bring the stories to life. Claire and Simon love visiting schools to talk about their work and do educational activities with the children. primaryteachers #primaryschools #football #grassrootsfootball #youthfootball #garethbale #togetherstronger #welshfootballassociation

Writing with adult voices allowed me to use extended vocabulary that will enhance children’s language development. At the end of the story there is a little glossary and list of organisations for children who want to learn more. In the classroom, the ideas and issues raised in the book would provide a primary classroom teacher with a wide range of teaching and learning opportunities, either as starting points for discussion or to support deeper investigation and research which could then provide material to be used across a wide range of curriculum areas. Importantly, I think, the book ends on a positive note and a call to activism for everyone, whatever age, to be involved in making better decisions and choices concerning the very real global environmental threats and issues facing the world today. Mother Earth is worried about climate change, pollution, unfair distribution of wealth and resources and war etc. She confides in Moon who enlists the help of Sun. They reassure her that the problems are not insurmountable and she should put her trust in young people who will fight her cause.oneearthshow #oneearth #partnership #AdvisoryBoard #ecochampion #ecoschools#kidsandclimatechange #climatechange #SAS #RootsandShoots #JaneGoodhall#ecoeducation #sustainability #sustainabilitychampion #environment #education Mother Earth shares her worries for the future, but is reassured by Moon and Sun that ‘she might not escape unscathed but she can still be saved’. Mother Earth is Weeping has just received a fabulous review from the National Association for Environmental Education. Not only entertaining but educational too and a great resource for the classroom. (I am a retired teacher.) The story is essentially a conversation between the celestial bodies about Mother Earths concerns for her future and the reassurance she gets from Moon and Sun. In this lesson, children learn about the United Nation's Mother Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April each year. Students brainstorm ideas about the things our planet gives us and make their own drawings with text or posters to share their ideas.Dimensions ‏ : ‎ 20.96 x 0.2 x 20.96 cm About the Author Claire Donald was born and still lives in South Wales, United Kingdom.
