This oversight has taken what should have been a noteworthy upgrade and made it questionable for fans that have reveled in its attributes. My Atmos rating system doesn’t have a parameter that takes low frequency effects into account so this will be reflected under the Entertainment Factor rating parameter. Raiders’ was restored from the original negatives (overseen by Steven Spielberg) and remastered with a new 4k digital intermediate for Ultra HD Blu-ray. The movie is presented in 2160p (4k) with Dolby Vision and HDR10 providing an expanded color range. The 4k HDR video bit rate ranged between 50 and 60Mbps with peaks into the low 80s.

The story introduced the world to Harrison Ford's inimitable Indiana Jones, a college professor who moonlights as a tomb-raiding archaeologist, and who crosses paths with some Nazis in a race to find the potentially all-powerful Ark of the Covenant. Initially coming from just a sketch of scenes by Lucas and Spielberg, who had no script to tie them together, the end result is indeed a succession of memorable set pieces - not least the fabulous opening sequence, which has to be one of the greatest scenes of all time. But it's also a whole lot more. You’re obviously missing out on a great deal of bonus content (again, see our review of the box set for a complete list). But you do at least get a Digital Copy code on a paper insert. And Paramount has chosen to include a mini poster this time, featuring the original 1981 U.S. one-sheet artwork by Richard Amsel. So that’s something. Raiders of the Lost Ark won Oscars for Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Effects, Visual Effects, and Best Sound Effects, Editing. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

First up, Tim and Dennis have taken a look at Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot (1959) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. Detail is stunning on this first entry, from the gritty, grimy tombs to the jungle foliage, the busy marketplaces and desert landscapes. Ford's unshaven often pretty damn sweaty look, perfectly shaped hat and weathered clothing are all wondrously observed, along with the richly textured sets and locations, Tunisia standing out. The intricacy and design of some of them is exceptionally well realised here, as veritable grains of sand come to the fore. series' most iconic moments to life as never heard before. In the moments before, as Indy approaches the idol in the final few feet, a single arrow I remember my father took me to see Raiders of the Lost Ark at the theater when it came out in 1981. My parents divorced when I was seven and Raiders was the first movie he and I saw together. It was a special event all around and I was immediately a fan. For him it reminded him of the serials he used to see at the movies when he was a boy and for me it represented something I really hadn’t experienced in a film to that point. I knew Harrison Ford from Star Wars but, heroes for me either had laser pistols, superpowers or rode horses and carried six shooters. As I watched Raiders, I couldn’t help but feel that Indiana Jones was larger than life and, in many ways fit the aforementioned hero bill (less the laser pistols of course). improved even along gray and earthy accents inside.
