Annoying because I could of left the car with them, now I will have to take it back again, that's assuming they will do it under warranty, if not I will fit a large washer and find a way to stop it cracking any further! Someone said to me that the rear end of the heat shield isn't really necessary and can safely be removed. As long as it’s at the rear of the car and not near the front, then ditching it in the main won’t cause you any problems, the biggest problem you get is the front ones that protect cv joints or steering uj’s as they then tend to fail prematurely. I removed the nut clip with my fingers, and added a large steel washer, before mounting the clip back on. I had it replaced at the dealership the first time around but got fed up with the stupid design when it started rattling again (especially under acceleration) so here's an easy fix.

So after initially pushing the washers on, can rotate them through one of the slots to tighten slightly. You'll see some generic circular spring clips that I've used to refix (for the second time) my new rear heat shield. Normal nuts, bolts and studs seem to do fine for everything else under the car… I had the fun combo of some big holes in the shield, but also some terribly corroded stupid hexagonal fasteners to remove everywhere the shield hadn’t holed.rgb251, 251, 253;">I managed to get it firmly back on, it will probably hold, without any more rattle. Not sure what it’s like on a quashqui, but on the focus the shield was I between the silencer and the underbody so no issues parking on dry grass. Use a bit of ally sheet instead of a repair washer, the galvanic corrosion will take many car lifetimes to eat through 1mm of aluminium compared to the wafer thin heatshield.

The heat shield wraps around the back box and there are two hex nuts/washers to upper left of tailpipe. When used to retain the side plastic undercovers, rust does eventually kill them and they let the undercover droop if your lucky, if not, I've heard that when too many fail due to rusting, the undercovers drop down onto the road, but you would need to be very short of checking things over to end up in that situation - a friend's daughter did lose one from her old Polo, so much for "garage of dad" ! I looked up myself before posting a few listings and they too came up with VW transporter, Golf fitment. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .I've bought the smaller thicker ones recently but that was only to fit one in a position that VW did not find the need to, the springy/flexible larger ones I've used for years on my older cars, nowadays these are only used to secure heat shields, their use in lower temperature locations has now been stopped and plastic nuts have replaced them in newer cars.
