Mary seeing two angels outside the tomb: “When she’s at her most human, sobbing, and feeling separate from Christ, when she’s at her most broken, and vulnerable, this is when she can perceive the angels. As the calendar turned to December, I thought it would be the perfect time to read something about Christianity, and Meggan Watterson’s book found its way to my nightstand.

There are so many gems of original writing, themes and insights that makes it a book of great importance if we are to fully integrate our history and reclaim our sense of worth in a culture that is misguided by the insatiable quest to acquire material worth, power over others, and supremacy. Yet, King argues, ‘We know that in the early centuries and throughout Christian history, women played prominent roles as apostles, deacons, preachers, and prophets. I feel like I have gorged this book on a day I was freed of my mothering duties, allowed myseld to be still and discovered the knowing I always knew was true. MEGGAN WATTERSON is the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Mary Magdalene Revealed: The First Apostle, Her Feminist Gospel, And the Christianity We Haven’t Tried Yet. I’ve never agreed with the version of the Bible dictated to us through a man’s lens, the men-only club, etc.In fact, our purpose is to be fully human, to be a "true human being"- that is, a person who has remembered that, yes, we are a messy, limited ego, and we are also a limitless soul. I get the sense that Watterson is preaching to the choir in this book- it reads very much as if the reader is already convinced.

This will be great for spiritualists, people seeking self-help in the form of something 'beyond', and some feminists who want to branch out into theology (thought I wouldn't recommend they start here), but academic theologians should look elsewhere. But overall, the teaching she finds and interprets from this ancient manuscript is thrilling and liberating…surprisingly contemporary with today’s fight for justice on so many fronts. Let’s not forget other spiritual leaders of Christianity, including Mary of Nazareth and Joan of Arc. I’ve never felt able to connect myself to any of the patriarchal religious beliefs, wondering how (referring to Christianity here) a man such as Jesus who preached love and peace to all beings could be so out of touch as to not include all people who followed him.

translations of words ("anthropos" has literally nothing to do with God or Divinity, it just means "man" or "mankind"). Mary Magdalene Revealed is one of the most beautiful, powerful, exciting, and sorely needed books of our time.

Meggan Watterson is a theologian who studied at Harvard Divinity School and Columbia University’s Theological Seminary. She makes it safe for you to explore your own emotions while she journeys through the paradox of traveling long distances to find something that has always been inside of you. Give yourself the gift of immersing yourself in the profound love accessible to all that Meggan magnificently illuminates [in this book].Watterson speaks with such authority on the subject of a gospel she barely even goes into, you would think that she would have something more backing her word up.

But, that being said, the information she gives seems to be very important in placing the context of Jesus’ message and how it was heard by a very faithful disciple, Mary. Even the disciple Peter, as recorded in the Gospel of Mary, felt threatened by Mary Magdalene’s relationship with Christ. I first listened to the sample, and it is NOT from the book at all -- it is not a scene from a later chapter, or a sample of a page. The Gospel of Mary Magdalene presents a radical interpretation of Jesus' teachings as a path to inner spiritual knowledge.Additionally, she shows the reader how the teachings of Mary Magdalene helped the author live her best life. Meggan facilitates the REDLADIES—a community of radical love that lets her preach about female saints, mystics, gurus, and poets who inspire and teach us to live in service of love. Goodreads Synopsis: A gospel, as ancient and authentic as any of the gospels that the Christian bible contains, was buried deep in the Egyptian desert after an edict was sent out in the 4th century to have all copies of it destroyed.
