Description

Yale lets you set motion alerts in marked regions, as you'd hope, so you can ensure that you're only notified at certain times of the day or night, and in certain areas. That means no notifications if the camera catches a whiff of someone walking past your home, for instance. When setting up your Cameras, the image masking functionality allows users to simply select the areas that need to be covered by the motion detection feature, whilst ignoring any others that do not require camera coverage. There are multiple lighting modes to ensure that you don't blind anyone unnecessarily, too, and in a pinch it can deploy a 110dB built-in siren which should be more than enough to deter most intruders or trespassers. Like many people, I have subscription fatigue, thanks to four different TV streaming services and three types of cloud storage. So a new pet hate among gadgets is anything that requires a direct debit. Camera quality isn't industry-leading here at 1080p, but that should be sharp enough for most people, while an IP65 weather rating means you're fine to leave it out in all sorts of bad weather without worrying.

A New Delhi-based start-up has created this motorcycle helmet that filters out PM2.5 and other harmful particulates from the air. Its H13 HEPA filter offers fast airflow, not fogging. The innovation is protecting riders in Indian cities, which rank among the most polluted on the planet, but it could save lives all over the world.

Finally, installing a floodlight camera is fairly easy, but wired fixtures require you to deal with high-voltage electrical wiring. If you’re not comfortable with that, then consider hiring a professional for the installation. Or you can opt for a battery-powered fixture; they don’t require any wiring whatsoever, but you likely need to charge them frequently depending on their recording resolution and amount of use. Installation went pretty smoothly, though I wish we'd known to pair the camera with the app before mounting it to the wall. Pairing requires you to point your phone camera at a QR code on the Yale (confusingly not the QR code in the instructions) and then it uses the phone microphone to play audio to communicate with the Yale Floodlight Camera's microphone. We mounted it before pairing, so there was some going up and down a ladder with a phone. At least I remembered to put the MicroSD memory card into the slot in the weatherproof camera before it was mounted. The resolution indicates the size of image that is captured by the camera, the larger the image the clearer the image will appear. Higher resolution cameras are ideal when viewing footage on a large TV screen. Lower resolution cameras are perfect for viewing high definition video on your smartphone or tablet. However, not all floodlight cams offer the same features. For example, some pricier models have smart detection and recognition capabilities. Others offer broad support for third-party smart home devices and platforms. I found my route to doing this easily was to mount the unit in place of an existing static light fitting, which meant all the wiring was in place and there was also the reassurance of a secure location point. I needed to drill some new holes for the fixing screws, but other than that the wiring part of the process was pretty straightforward. The main thing to remember during this is to switch off at the mains before you do anything! Similarly, don’t overlook the fact that you’ll need to put in the microSD card before you get too far into the installation process. Yale Floodlight Camera review: Performance
