During the Covid-19 pandemic, a section of the diary of Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia fell into the hands of Meg Cabot, the Princess’s royal biographer. Moreover, after 12 years of being a princess, and numerous *incidents* with the press, I thought Mia would know better than to act the hero by *rescuing* her sister. All that time, I kept thinking- she could've sent Lily. Or Tina. But oh no, she had to go herself and make EVERYONE discover her sister's identity. OH. MY. GOD. It's like she's reviving all my favourite childhood series: first the Mediator, then this!!! The series is set primarily in the Manhattan borough of New York City. Some books take place in Genovia, a fictional European country. Genovia is a principality between France and Italy ruled by Mia's father, Prince Philippe Renaldi, and by Mia's grandmother, Dowager Princess Clarisse Renaldi. Michael's dad thought this was so hilarious, he bought dozens of copies to give to his friends and even his patients. Michael's asked him to stop, but his dad won't listen.

We never got a resolution to the Lars-Lilly thing. Why was she so anti-men all of a sudden? We never found out But it's not really adult- adult, because this is probably the cleanest adult novel I've read in FOREVER. As in, no cursing and no sex.And a grown up Mia never makes mistakes. She’s perfect while everyone around her is childish. With the addition of the twins it would have been fun to read about parenting fails and relationship dynamics under quarantine but instead the story is all about what everyone else is doing wrong and how much Mia loves wine.

This was quite an interesting book, a little different from those Princess Diaries that I’ve recently read, with Princess Mia talking and writing on her journal. This time, Ransom My Heart was being narrated by a third person and it was done OK. I expected more from the worldbuilding since 1920's England seems so vague and it just seems like a generic countryside to me. There was nothing that distinct about Stephensgate or any other village they came across. So, I was disappointed by that factor.Finnula Crais is out to catch a rich man. Why has Fair Finn switched from hunting game to hunting men? To help out her beloved sister, of course!

While RANSOM MY HEART has its share of historical romance tropes - scheming teenage girls, corrupt bailiffs, mistaken identity, and disastrous miscommunication - readers will find these as familiar landmarks rather than repetitive scenery. Meg Cabot seems to have a lot of fun playing with our expectations and then subverting them. Although, I can really tell I have aged since first reading this series at the very ripe age of 13. Girl’s Guide to New York Through the Movies” in Metropolis Found (August 2003)New York Is Book CountryThe Princess Diaries is a young adult series written by Meg Cabot. It’s about Mia who is the princess and heir to the throne of Genovia, a small country in Europe. Anyway, the romance part is very sweetly done. They're a loving couple with a good sense of humor, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them.

I normally don't read Historical Romances, but I really liked the short snippets of this story we got in Forever Princess and I thought that I should give it a go. I was not disappointed. The idea that non-STEM intelligence is somehow lesser is a pet peeve of mine, both as a feminist and as someone who majored in the humanities. “Softer” skills like communication and writing are associated with femininity today, though they weren’t always (especially since the majority of women were illiterate in the not-so-distant past, a problem that continues today in several countries, but I digress). Michael has reassured Mia several times that she IS smart and that he DOES want to be with her, but it never seems to take, and I wonder if the realization that so-called women’s skills are dismissed as inferior would have helped her finally take that message to heart.

Absolutely LOVED this! Okay, so I wasn't really planing to read this ever, because I was quite satisfied with the movie and I've heard that the books were really different. But then, Shannon from Leaning Lights (booktuber) how cute, fun they were and I find it really cheap on Thrift Books and they gave me a 20% discount because of my birthday, and I had to buy it, OK? xD But it was such a good decision. I'm still surprised that about how much I enjoy this story. I laugh out loud multiple times and I like Mia a lot. She is a little clueless but, c'mon, who wasn't at age 14? In general I love how seeing her grow through the story and agree with her point of views about a lot of things. Her grandmother comes to New York as well and starts to give her princess lessons, including a full makeover for Mia. She is not the kind matronly grandmother that we got with Julie Andrews who was understanding, she was strict and unkind, completely judgmental and steam rolled over everyone. Honestly I could have seen Julie being a bit more Mary Poppins with the role with her being more pompous and such it could have worked, but they wanted to make her kinder. So, they start out with a 14 year old Mia learning that she's heir to the Genovian throne, and then follow her through the years as she grows from a gawky girl to a beautiful princess.
