Description

After all, NO one wants to walk home pushing a scooter with a flat tire, especially Unagi riders, who tend to be pretty busy people. The shape of the handlebars reminds us of the Starship Enterprise. Everything is well laid out and easy to navigate, giving this scooter a very premium look and feel. For this reason, it’s a good idea to practise using the left braking paddle at low speeds before you advance to riding anywhere near its maximum speed of 15mph. The team at Unagi claims that the Model One can reach 15.5 miles on a single charge but optimizing for this range relies on a few variables: a lightweight rider, riding in ‘eco’ mode, and a flat road with favorable weather conditions. It folds up fast, it’s aesthetic, and everything about it is made to be zero-maintenance. Those looking for a scooter that requires little upkeep, looks good, and performs well will find what they’re looking for right here. Performance and ride quality Speed & Acceleration

see latest price Our hands-on experience with the Unagi Model One E-Scooter Design, materials & build qualityUnagi offers some of the best customer service and support in the world, and the E500 typically comes with a one-year warranty in most countries, which guarantees you repair at the manufacturer’s discretion. If the damage comes within the first three months, Unagi sends you a replacement scooter. The warranty, like most scooter companies, is extended to the first owner alone. It does not cover wear and tear, damage from misuse (off-road use and water damage). However, you won’t want to submerge the Model One; it’s not an amphibious vehicle. For your dry-land commute and street-bound exploration, though, the Model One will be able to work, rain, or shine. Intelligent Battery Management System The display is bright enough to read easily, even outside during the day; the controls are ergonomic, and the rubberized grips on the handlebars are high-quality silicon rubber. LED lights Of course the flip side of that coin is that you’ll never get a flat tire due to the airless tire design. So if you mainly commute on fairly nice paths and bike lines, this may be a compromise that you’ll gladly make. On the handlebars, you'll find the simple console. A power button turns the scooter on and off. A thumb paddle on the left controls the brake; a thumb paddle on the right serves as the accelerator. There's also a small tab to toot the most annoying horn on the planet. The tinny, high-pitched electronic squeak sounds like the noise an iPhone would make if it had a "you're on fire" alert. Another small tab on the handlebars toggles between the ride modes: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

The Model One has a custom-built system for monitoring its own performance, so it won’t overheat and will optimize its function to be efficient and safe. However, there is no associated smartphone app, as there is for some of Unagi’s competitors. While this means that you may not have precise information about your scooter’s performance, it does offer you a simpler user experience. Weight & LoadThe Unagi Model One also has an electric braking system, as opposed to disc brakes. Though this exhibits superb stopping power, it’s so effective that on several occasions I found it too abrupt, jerking me forward unexpectedly. Under ideal conditions, the Unagi Model One can reach a range of 16 miles (25 kilometers). However, under city conditions, with a load of about 165 lb (75kg), the Model One’s range is closer to 8.5 miles (13.67 kilometers). Braking We believe that portability is key when it comes to designing the perfect scooter. That's why we make it our primary objective with every scooter we create, and it's embedded in our core DNA. But it's not just about being lightweight; winning in portability means designing every detail with ease of use in mind. Now’s the time to go all-in, as Unagi is releasing their All-Access subscription—a service that offers you a guaranteed, insured, worry-free experience with the most design-forward electric scooter around.

Mode one is suitable for beginner riders, or eco riding to maximize battery performance, with a top speed of 9 mph. Here, there is a gentle acceleration curve that enables you to feel in control. Crucially, though, the Model One differentiates itself from both models in two significant ways. First, it has a 450W dual-motor arrangement, in comparison to Xiaomi and Ninebot-Segway’s 300W single rear-motor designs. Second, its lightweight materials make the Model One more than 3kg lighter than both its rivals. You’ll already have an inkling by now that Unagi places high importance on quality standards throughout its design and manufacturing process. From the carbon fiber and magnesium alloy to the glossy finish, the Model One really is a refined specimen. Only the hard plastic latch release belies this Ferrari-style scooter. The batteries powering the Unagi Model One come from LG. As such, you can rest assured that they’re high quality. They’re durable, reliable, and built to be long-lasting. As a result, you can enjoy the fact that the Model One should require very little (or even zero) maintenance. One thoughtful detail we welcome is the dedicated driving mode button, which can be found above the throttle. It’s small, very similar to the horn button, but it’s easy to press and does make changing driving modes during rides a less stressful affair. Instead of you having to let go of one handle, so you can press the power button that usually moonlights as the driving mode button (at least on other e-scooters), you literally just reach for it with your thumb, much like you would to press the throttle. It’s brilliant. Unagi’s model is centred around design, artistry, and engineering. As highly evidenced by the Model One line, Unagi offers advanced features and style. The quality build of this scooter is all the selling point it needs, and all models in the Model One line are crafted using heavy-duty aluminium alloy and the same Japanese carbon fibre used by Elon Musk on SpaceX spacecraft- (the Tesla of electric Scooters?) These high-quality materials contribute to a sturdy frame and overall lightweight element critical for portability. The premium lithium-ion batteries maximize performance and are housed in an IP54 waterproof-rating, alongside an intelligent battery management system. Front and rear mudguards also mean that the Model One can be used on wet terrain, but it’s not advisable to go on a ride in torrential downpour…mainly because avoiding puddles that would submerge even just the bottom edge of the hub motors is pretty important. You need to get to work every day but don't have access to a car (or don't want to pay for one), what options do you have? Hands down, an electric scooter is the number one choice for urban commuting. The gently sloping curves of the carbon fiber stem make it comfortable in the hand too, which likely contributes to it feeling even lighter than it is when carrying the scooter.

Few scooters can match its performance-to-pound ratio. And no other scooters can match its style points. Hyman’s sense of style and music connections helped make the Model One a favorite for celebrities. But his mission has always been to keep things practical and approachable, and that’s easy to see in the Unagi Voyager, which only improves on the Model One Classic’s lightweight and portable design. Physically, the Model One Voyager looks every bit like the Model One Classic, which is all well and good. No one needs to reinvent the wheel – unless, of course, the wheels just aren’t cutting it, which is the case here. It also inherits the Classic’s 7.5-inch solid tires, which to their credit, are puncture-proof due to their nature. The Unagi Model One charges in just under five hours—from zero to a full battery. There is a convenient LED indicator that will turn green when the battery is fully charged. Unagi features Folding & portabilityWant to meet other Unagi aficionados such as yourself? Join our Unagi Scooter Club! The Unagi Scooter Club is a community Facebook hub you can use to connect with other riders and access helpful resources! The electronic brake requires no maintenance. The foot brake may be redundant, but we love the added peace of mind it offers—and it’s not bulky at all. Charge time In other words, this is the electric scooter most business professionals would want to ride to work, especially if they’re wearing their suits on those daily commutes but still want to look cool. The Unagi Model One E500 performs outstandingly well in eliminating lags when accelerating. Performance tests on the scooter show it takes 4.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 14.9mph. This is significantly faster than most of the 12 kg scooters in the market currently. The Model One E500 is electronically limited to a top speed of approximately 17 mph. The scooter has three power modes catering to beginners, intermediate and professional users. While the Unagi Model One is a decent quality, simplistic scooter, it is fairly expensive for what you get. As such, we recommend you look at other models in our review before settling on the Model One. What Other Electric Scooters You Consider?
