That being said, there’s no getting around the fact that this is a large pen. I show it below compared to everything from a TWSBI Eco to a King of Pen. The body is not as wide as the King of Pen, but it is longer and heavier. Maybe I’ve just gotten used to big pens over time, and others with small hands may not agree- but because the pen is so well balanced, and because the section works so well for me- I have no issues with the size of this pen. The name Momento Zero, absolutely evoking, exactly means a new beginning, a start from scratch; the first pen made by a new company, based on experience and passion of a strong team. The Leonardo Momento Zero collection is inspired by the Italian vintage style, worldwide known; it’s a classic pen, well balanced with size and metal trims.

The Momento Zero was lovely to write with. I loaded it up with my Papier Plume Ivy Green and away I went. The nib was smooth right out of the box, and wrote beautifully with no rough starts. While the pen is gorgeous and I can’t stop looking at it, I have to admit that it might be a little big for my hand. (Remember – I have small hands and the Pro Gear Slim is totally my speed!) I can’t decide whether I care for the section, which is somewhat graduated, or whether I would prefer one that was a consistent circumference. What I will comment on is the difference in feel between the Zero and the Magico. Despite both pens being made of acrylic resin, the Magico is about 20% lighter, weighing in at about 20 grams. The difference in weight is noticeable with the Momento Zero feeling denser than the Magico. Grudgingly, I have to admit that as much as I love this pen (and others) this one’s going to Ana! That said, you really should try one of these and decide for yourself! One of the changes to these new Momento Zero Grande pens is the single band at the end of the cap. This replaces the three rings of the previous line. I like the wider band and the geometric shape is very attractive. There is a fair amount of work for the detailed engraving and it adds to the overall look of the pen. The Nib & FeedThe overall size also makes the Grande a perfect home for the oversize #8 nib. This nib makes even the M800 (second from the left) nib look small. The Momento Zero Grande uses an in-house manufactured ebonite feed. The Japanese ebonite is cut and manufactured in the Leonardo workshop. Ink Storage The Momento Zero is the flagship pen for Leonardo Officina Italiana. I was fortunate to own the prototype, produced in a beautiful celluloid. It is such an important pen in my collection. Since the original release, the Momento Zero has been created in a variety of materials and two sizes. Regular and Grande. Compared to two of my other favorite gold nibs, the oversize #8 is a little softer than the 823 but has less “give” than the Sailor King of Pen that tends to produce a bit of line variation. It’s also a little broader than the M nib counterparts of those pen models.

The new line uses an updated band at the base of the cap. The cap has a single broad 8 mm band with an engraved geometric art pattern. This replaces the series of rings found on the previous Momento Zero kunes. The Pen Box Well this is what the pen is all about. The Momento Zero Grande pen is simply a wonderful writer. I used it to update my travel jounral on my 2021 trip through Italy. Lots of writing each day and it was a pleasure to use the pen. I was honestly surprised by how much I love this material. I think all of Leonardo’s materials look every better in person than they do in photos online, and this one is no expectation. The white portions of the material are a swirly mix of slightly transparent areas and a pearlescent shine. That extra depth to the material is what makes so many of the Leonardo materials special.I have been bugging Dan on a regular basis about when the oversize nib version would drop since Dan first mentioned the possibility to me. He was kind enough to loan the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande in Blue Fiodacqua to me for review, and it was worth the wait. I’ve teased this in the last couple of posts, so I’ll come right out and say it: the Leonardo Momento Zero has blown me away. In this review I’ll explain why. A color that evokes the serenity and vastness of the skies, perfectly in tune with our vintage-style design.

Even the ebonite and resins are subjected to dedicated treatments to last over time, forever, to be passed down from generation to generation. But a #8 gold nib is a completely different story. Larger sized nibs are where you really start to see a huge impact of gold nibs, and there is really no other nib material that can match the experience. Balance and Writing Comfort. Perhaps most importantly, the pen is perfectly sized and balanced for my hand - neither too long nor too short, and I can easily use it posted or unposted. The only other pens that hit this same sweet spot are the Montblanc 146 and, sadly, the Delta Fusion 82, which no longer exists (though one remains in my collection). The Leonardo feels most like the 146 in my hand, since the barrel is wider than the Fusion 82, though it’s much lighter due to the absence of a brass piston. The Momento Zero Grande pens come with an in-house designed and created 1.5 ml piston fill mechanism. The size of the piston capacity is one of the largest available. I like the large ink capacity. I can fill up the pen and take it for a serious writing excercise! Cap BandIt’s a big size upgrade from the typical #6 sized nib. What does that size upgrade get you in terms of performance? Over 45 years of experience in the field of writing instruments, handed down from father to son, from generation to generation. Why "Nuvola"? Inspired by the tranquility and elegance of clouds, the Nuvola reflects a sense of calm and contemplation. Just as the clouds move gracefully in the sky, this pen glides across the paper with the same lightness, offering an unparalleled writing experience.
