Although the pair were able to summon and re-combine many crystals, including Starscream's, they were unable to gather enough to accomplish the task, and so Prowl sacrificed himself, adding his own spark to the crystal mass, providing the necessary power. The AllSpark generated a shield that protected Detroit from the explosion caused by bombs Starscream had planted in the Omega Supreme clones, and the Autobots emerged triumphant. Endgame, Part II
