Christmas gonks — unique little figurines with long bushy beards and long knitted hats — are often considered to be the Nordic version of Santa Claus. Inspired by gnomes and hobgoblins found in Scandinavian and Nordic mythology, their popularity has been continuing to surge over the years. Many of the youkai in Natsume's Book of Friends look this way. Nyanko-sensei in particular, has come to be known by Natsume's friends as "Natsume's really ugly cat" - if they don't mistake him for a pig, that is. One of the Tsuchikage's bodyguards is a giant named Akatsuchi who has big fat cheeks, a bowling bin-shaped body, and a bulbous nose. In fact, the Tsuchikage himself also has an even weirder looking nose. Gonks are quirky, gnome-like figurines with faces that are almost entirely covered by a large hat and fluffy beard (you can only see their cute bulbous nose). Terrance is a human example. He was made to be as ugly as humanly possible, with the crooked teeth and the acne. You can use Christmas gonks as standing ornaments; such as stand them up as window decorations to make the home look extra cosy and welcoming to the outside. This works very well in commercial settings too. Where the little Christmas creatures will be sure to catch the eye of many walking by and draw them into your shop or café. You might also like to place a long legged gonk on bookshelves. So that they look pleasantly perched on the edge with their legs dangling. This works well on the mantelpiece too, where the gonks can decorate this space and bring a sense of fun, warmth and a little bit of mischief to the feel of the room. Remember: This is not a place to complain about character designs you personally find to be ugly or to list examples of Informed Ugliness. Gonk characters are emphasized in-universe to be extremely ugly and/or depicted as ugly by having an unconventional appearance compared to everyone else in the work. Most of the characters from Adventure Time who don't quite fit in with the standard character design of the oUo face end up invoking this trope.
