Batman: Haunted Knights collects 3 Halloween Specials of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight (Fears, Madness, and Ghosts) written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale I also liked that this book showed Bruce's relationship with his mother. I was surprised to know that he was the one who requested her mother to wear that Pearls at that night. And we know very well that how this leads to Pearls shattering death of her mother which forever hunts him for rest of his life. Then there's that sweet part which shows how Bruce's mother used to tell him the story of Alice in wonderland on rainy nights.

And finally there is the Penguin, and yet more discrete hallucinations and nightmares. Bruce's father shows up wrapped in chains and informs him of three more ghosts to follow this night. The three ghosts are Poison Ivy's, the Joker's and the ghost of a zombie Batman. I have no idea why those three or what it is that they are trying to say (if anything at all). Batman by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale Omnibus collects their magnum opus trilogy: Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory, and Catwoman: When in Rome. Also included is the Batman: Haunted Knight trilogy of Halloween inspired one-shots: Batman: Choices, Batman: Madness, and Batman: Ghosts. Finally, it contains stories from Superman/Batman Secret Files 2003, Superman/Batman #26, and Solo #1. Seeing Batman solving cases and going against criminals and villains is awesome. What's even better is the reason he does it. Why does multimillionaire puts on a Bat- suit and fights crime? Ghosts" is a Batman universe version of A Christmas Carol, with Bruce's father Thomas Wayne taking the place of Jacob Marley, and the three spirits being Poison Ivy (the Ghost of Christmas Past), the Joker (the Ghost of Christmas Present), and a Grim Reaper figure (the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come) who turns out to be Batman's ghost. The message from the spirits is that Bruce should not let Batman take over his entire life. Last thing i'm going to mention is that all of the great writing comes to life by the exceptional art by Tim Sale.ORIGINS: Batman: Year One and/or Zero Year and/or Golden Age origin story (first appeared in Detective Comics #33, reprinted in Batman #1) Finally, we get When in Rome. I had hoped this would force Loeb to stop reusing the same ideas. In some ways it did, but not enough. Despite the change in hero and setting, we still get mostly reused villains. (Cheetah is an exciting but head-scratching addition.) The story is oddly paced and feels empty without the rich characters and setting of Gotham and very little to replace them. Invested as I have become in the complex dynamics between the Falcones and Maronis, I don't care at all about the "Mafia." In the end, transplanting so many ideas from Gotham to Italy only serves to make the Loeb version of the DCU feel smaller than ever. Perhaps this title will appeal to Catwoman fans in the audience, but I can't rightfully count myself among them and this entry did not make me a believer.

Batman: Dark Victory by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale - This story focuses on a series of murders yet again occuring on holidays (one year after TLH) but this time with more supervillains and mob drama. Taken independently the story is entertaining if not a rather simple pastiche of well trodden mob drama and supervillain plots. However, as a series with so much similarity to TLH the more repetitive, stale, and underwhelming qualities become more glaring. Overall it was still a breezy read saved by Sale's immersive art and delivers many entertaining moments even though the story is rather unoriginal. 7.5/10 This omnibus volume contains the complete set of graphic novels created by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale set in the Batman universe. These include the Haunted Knight trilogy, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and Catwoman: When in Rome. All are set in Batman's Year One era, although this is really more Years 3-5. The second story is "Madness" and tells the story of how the Mad Hatter kidnapped Barbara Gordon, Jim Gordon's daughter. All “Legends of the Dark Knight” stories not yet referenced, except for crossovers with main titles, or including Robin, Batgirl or Ra’s Al Guhl (Shaman, Gothic, Venom, etc.). Include the Halloween Specials reprinted in “Haunted Knight” Batman by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale Omnibus is a comic anthology collected the wonderful series and one-shots that were written and illustrated by Jeph Loeb Tim Sale respectively. They are considered a legendary team that devised some of the best memorable Batman stories.

During the story "Fears", Batman is hunting down and trying to capture the Scarecrow. As the title suggests, fear plays a large part in the story, with Batman nearly dying of fear while trapped in a large, poisonous thorn maze. Finally, DC included Catwoman: When in Rome in this edition as well. I was really happy about this. I wasn’t crazy about this book when it first came out, but I ended up enjoying it a little more this time around. Selina makes a trip to Italy, with Edward Nigma in tow, in search of some answers about her own past. Could have used a little more Batman, but what story wouldn’t be better with a little more Batman? I really like Loeb’s Selina and this was a nice little garnish for The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.
