Imagine that kind of low-level harassment and going on for years, where the troll just keeps going and reporting it to twitter, Instagram, Facebook does absolutely nothing to stop it? As a journalist Madigan documented every aspect of the harrowing experience she and her family endured. Annie Wilkes imprisons and tortures an author, hoping to create a better end for her favourite heroine. I did not know a lot about the topic, but was hooked from reading an excerpt of this book in The Australian. I did like the ending and even though I saw it coming I was worried it could’ve been a huge turn around.

The Obsession is one of those books where I thought I knew how things were going to go, and then Jesse Q. That is not to say that the book wasn't interesting prior to Xander's appearance because it was but there's nothing more exciting than reading about two people falling in love despite the eff up situation they're in. First she fell hard for Sophie who treated like him like turd on her shoes, rejecting his pure love! The multiple behaviours that fit the stalking profile include continuous contact, approaching family and friends, public defamation and the spreading of lies. But Kinbote isn't your usual bookish man and as he takes you further into his own uncertain identity, his relationship with Shade begins to look slightly different, as does the reader's understanding of Shade's death.

But there’s a big problem for their relationship; her mother’s abusive asshole/ police officer boyfriend doesn’t want Delilah to fool around. It is as chilling and gripping to read as the best thriller, made even more disturbing because every word of it is true.

I’m not a big fan of her trilogies, those are hits and misses but her hardcovers are something I look forward to every single year. The difficulty is that we care about what people think, and so are therefore less likely to report problematic behaviour for fear of embarrassment, shame or being accused of overreacting. In fact, Madigan includes her own VIS at the end of the book, and it is an extremely powerful document; she states that connecting with others is empowering, validating and comforting. Although I don't suppose that is the goal because as much as the novel succeeds as a thriller, it falls short as a cautionary tale on delineating telling the truth as most mystery/thriller books do. Obsession is a natural motivator, requiring ever greater sacrifices, presenting increasing dangers to anyone standing in the way. NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT CHOOSE TO TAKE THIS OFF YOUR TBR OR IN GENERAL BASED ON MY REVIEW. But after Logan sees Delilah killing her abusive stepfather, he realizes there’s still more about her to discover.

Another heavy subject matter and I would like to state that I won’t be including a rating because it is irrelevant, every single story in this books including Nicole’s matters and is important. In this book, I was not only impressed by the suspense aspect which made me unable to put it down, but also by the way the author smoothly blends humor into the dialogue. As Joe increasingly crosses boundaries to keep his dream girl within his grasp, the second-person narrative gives the novel a queasy intimacy. Delilah is a good girl with some dark secrets and one of these secrets is that she's responsible for the murder of her mother's abusive boyfriend. The author does a good job of "showing" instead of telling throughout her personal experience but reverts to a journalistic style of writing, which I greatly appreciated.

The author- Nicole Madigan, wrote a very articulate and heartfelt account of her ordeal over a few years by Karissa, who was fixated on the author for reasons that havent been made apparent. This section has experiences from other victim-survivors and some examples of victims who did not survive. Now, she's a photography living in a small town in the Pacific Northwest and she's renovating a house. When he wants you at your best and accepts you at your worst🥺 I mean, she's a murderer and a drug dealer. From the engaging plot to the cast of complex and layered characters, The Obsession grabbed my attention from the very first page.

As the tension mounts, Delaware and Sturgis uncover a tangled history of desperation, vengeance, and death–a legacy of evil that refuses to die. I read Wilful Disregard full of both agonised secondhand embarrassment and admiration for Andersson’s crisp prose. I didn’t really care much for Logan’s character development, he felt very flat to me whereas Dee was more well-developed and insightful. It showed readers how much her father's notoriety affected Naomi's view about relationships and her reticence in having people know about her. The lack of control that any victim of obsession has is always disturbing, and this book is no exception.

Then things start going pear shaped as young women turn up dead and somehow it all seems scarily familiar !
