Conversely, as someone who loves to make cocktails at home because of the flavo(u)rs but has begun to get serious headaches (not hangovers!

triggered by smaller and smaller amounts of alcohol, these are exactly what I imagine I’m looking for.Seedlip was the game changer and became the poster brand for Low/ No and, with the might of Diageo behind it, is now promising big things for Aecorn Apéritifs its new range of non-alcoholic aperitifs. These grapes are pressed early and blended with appetite stimulating herbs, roots and bitter botanicals to create a range of complex, bold and bitter non-alcoholic aperitifs.

What did exist was Ben Branson’s revolutionary brand, Seedlip, which Warner had admired for some time. I had just written a review before reading David Gluckman’s words, and it turns out mine comments are quite similar to his, even down to his comments on this and non alcoholic beers! Throw it together with a prosecco alternative and a splash of soda and it's an interesting take, if a bit more bitter, on an Aperol spritz, giving it a little extra herbal character, although some of it does get lost this way, to compliment the tart, citrusy notes of the prosecco while the bitterness still pushes through.

This falls somewhere between a citrus (although of a grape-style rather than the more common orange of many Italian citrus amari) and a vegetal one, with that nutty character in it. There were loads of ingredients present which I didn’t know, and certainly couldn’t recognise if I tasted them: hard to imagine keeping calm and smelling the Chinotto, or taking in the ‘familiar’ notes of Quassia, Kola nut and Clary Sage. Having spent childhood summers trekking through Italian vineyards, Elisa’s love of wine started at a young age. The copy on the back labels was too small for me to read easily, so I settled down to reading a brochure that was given away with purchase.

I was full of anxiety, run down, and started to look for ways to look after myself in a job that was seemingly glamorous but actually quite gruelling. Inspired by traditional recipes and 17th century English herbal remedies, Aecorn have created an aperitif with complex notes of orange, grapefruit, bay leaf and honeycomb. However, one of the tasting notes (not the ingredients) mentions Quassia, which is not safe to consume during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
