The fourth Mitford novel, A New Song, won both the Christy and Gold Medallion awards for outstanding contemporary fiction in 2000. All they have to do is to continue to hide her from his brother Reiner who will spare neither of them should he learn the truth. Wilhelm has his goal of getting his inheritance at the forefront of his mind and as news of Annegret begins to emerge he delves that little bit deeper and discovers the truth behind what Margarete has done.

UNRELENTING is the story about her grandparents, who belonged to the German resistance and fought against the Nazi regime. But Margerete is fighting for her life and before long she finds that isn't the only battle she is up against. It didn’t bare thinking about if Reiner figured out what was going on but I suppose Wilhelm had his own clear long term goal in mind and was determined to achieve it but I guess he didn’t take into account his human emotions taking over at times. He's perplexed by what he perceives as her coolness and a bit agitated when a widow in his congregation sets her sights on him. This one is my least favorite of the Mitford books (at least the original nine), although I still adore it. She is to continue to live as his sister so that he can marry her off and gain control of her inheritance. I appreciate the opportunity and thank the author and publisher for allowing me to read, enjoy and review this book.

A poignant love story… beautifully written and rich with emotion… It is a story about courage and sacrificial love that I found really beautiful and one I highly recommend. I was in awe when I read that a book from my Grade 9 English curriculum was on the list – All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque! She loves to put her characters through the mangle, making them reach deep within to find the strength to face moral dilemma, make difficult decisions or fight for what is right. But as the bombers disappear and the dust slowly settles, Margerete is the only one left standing in the rubble.Trotz des ernsten Hintergrunds war die Geschichte viel zu seicht und oberflächlich und die Mitwirkenden entweder schwarz oder weiß. Life goes on in Mitford as listeners renew acquaintances with some of the townspeople and once again are charmed by the fictional community. Reiner and Wilhelm are the older brothers of the family and the only surviving members because they weren't there during the explosion. But worst of all was that the young women were expected to raise their babies during these three years so that they could then be sold - given up for adoption in exchange for a donation to the nuns. Read more about the condition New: An item that is still in its original shrink wrap from the manufacturer and the original manufacturer’s seal (if applicable) has not been removed.

Mitford is an idyllic small country town with wonderful characters and devoid of the stress of big city living. The role of French resistance fighters is also highlighted, along with many other historical phenomena that give the book an aura of authenticity. I wouldn’t say that the ending particularly leaves you on a cliffhanger, but it does make you want to find out what happens next. While Jan Karon has a huge following, no doubt composed in part of little old ladies, these stories are anything but what they appear to be on the outside.
