IMHO it was very clever of Bentley to market a floral fragrance with the "Black" moniker and theme, especially compared to the on the nose Tom Ford Rose Prick in its pink colored bottle which will likely turn off men who may already adverse to "girly" floral fragrances. This is, quite literally, the 1996 formulation of "Paco Rabanne - XS" that came in the clear glass bottle with flip-top. I can't wai tto see what this dries down to for the end stage, but I will be asleep by the time that hits tonight.

Nevertheless it's not really very similar to any of them, with the sole exception of Carven l'Eau Intense. The bottom stage becomes quite warm, resinous, sweet, a little creamy, and keeping some of the previous dryness together with a new peacefull woody and earthy accord. The violet does remind me of Parma Violets, but I do not find the perfume especially sweet, probably because the tangerine, though fruity, cuts through the floral vibe.

Brightened by a hint of jasmine – the gleam of a silk tie – the heart of the fragrance unfolds like a dark, subtly textured fabric of smooth patchouli and earthy papyrus. To me this is a cross between Bleu De Chanel and Versace Dylan Blue with a slight undertone of Dior Fahrenheit.Performance was a little disappointing unfortunately, lasted about 5-6 hours on skin with decent projection for the first 90 mins or so (I am not going nose blind to it). It smells like Gentelmen Only but in first two minutes then their both go on their own seperate way. This is one of the few fragrances from my "Violet" period that has survived all of the changes in my fragrance preferences through the years. Like an impeccably cut Savile Row suit, For Men Black Edition reflects the absolute sophistication of a man who will accept nothing but the best. This is very well done, but I'm not surprised because Lalique owns this brand and Lalique makes excellent juice!

So I make the assumption I get nose blind from aroma chemicals as they stay the same/create linear scents. Designing an object for a strong brand such Bentley need a clear vision and a knowledge of the DNA to make it properly.
