The resolution of the twist was very wholesome and made up for what was otherwise one of the grittier adventures in the series. We started to make jokes about Famous Five “All the do is picnic and talk about how delicious their apples are.

Developed countries love to jack up tariffs so that poorer countries don't have an unfair advantage in being able to produce cheaper goods, however my argument is that they tend to hurt the consuming public more.Now, in this new series of Enid Blyton for Grown-Ups, George, Dick, Anne, Julian and Timmy confront a new challenge: what exactly is this puzzling scrape referred to as a 'strategy away day'? This has to be one of my favourite fives as the weather described in the books makes for a perfect beachy holiday.

In a way this is very much Julian’s book, which is probably why it was my favourite when I was younger, because it feels very Juliancentric. The Five, deciding that they can’t stay in Kirrin Cottage with the Sticks any longer, head out to the island and one of my favourite parts is where they go around the house collecting supplies of food and blankets and things to use and live off of when they’re on Kirrin Island. The person who I was talking to suggested that the behaviour of the Famous Five from this point onwards was justified because Mrs Stick had a duty of care towards the Five that wasn’t being fulfilled, so their actions were completely justified.

They plan to spend time exploring Kirrin Island but their happiness is spoilt when Aunt Fanny falls ill and has to leave with Uncle Quentin to be treated in a far-off hospital.
