As the era of the Holocaust moves beyond the time of living memory, the struggle to understand and communicate what happened becomes even more difficult. How does watching a historical story told from a kid's perspective affect your enjoyment of it? When you realize you're watching a true story, does it change the impact the movie makes on you? Is there any inspiration you can find in Jo's heroism that you could use in your daily life, when the stakes aren't life or death? There was some lying and drinking but I can't remember any other content. The plot was surprising. I can't say much because #spoilers, but it was unusual, and well done. It was a thought-provoking book, really; I guess that's the best way to describe it.Families can talk about what preteens and teens know about the Holocaust. What upset them in Waiting for Anya? Why? A gripping World War II adventure from War Horse author and former Children's Laureate, Michael Morpurgo. Waiting for Anya doesn’t disguise this is where some of these Jewish people ended up,” he said. “I was telling a story about a small community which did gather around, and they existed.” Though Jo's father is away at war against the Nazis, Jo develops a friendship with a German Corporal from the troop that patrols the village and its mountains.
