LZ980: Available in four screen sizes, the LZ980 uses Panasonic’s premium processor but makes do with the basic OLED panel configuration. It includes almost all of the other features found on the LZ1000, but gets a stand that doesn’t swivel.

For such an affordable TV, the TX-55DX600B offers plenty of picture set-up tools. Which is just as well, actually, as I found myself tinkering extensively with some of these tools during my tests. The picture is powered by Panasonic’s 4K Colour Engine, with support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision– the latter included for more “vivid colours” as well as better contrast and brightness levels with compatible 4K discs and streaming services. With Dolby Vision, colour and brightness levels are changed dynamically for a more accurate and refined picture. Switching to the brilliant (and brilliantly testing) Blade Runner 2049 in HDR10, the Panasonic’s way with colours continues to be one of its greatest strengths. The neon signs and holographic adverts aside, this film has a delicate and carefully considered colour balance that’s easily spoiled by exaggeration, but the JZ1500B digs up the subtle rosiness of K’s skin and pumps those neons up in attention-grabbing fashion without altering the generally grimy and pallid approach. x HDMI (3x2.0)(eARC HDMI 2)2 x USB 2.0 Slot1 x CI Slot1 x LAN1 x Headphone out (Switchable To Subwoofer)1 x SPDIF (Optical Digital Audio Out) We’re still waiting for official pricing and availability information for the 2022 range but have outlined the key features of each model below.Because none of the above models are actually available just yet, let’s also take a look at the options from 2021 that are still on sale and for considerably cheaper than they were last year. Standby Notifications If the TV does not receive any input signal (e.g. from an aerial or HDMI source) for 3 minutes, it will go into standby. When you next switch-on, the following message will be displayed: “TV switched to stand-by mode automatically because there was no signal for a long time.” You can disable this functionality by setting the No Signal Timer option in the Settings> System>Device Settings menu accordingly. In 2021, Panasonic introduced an Auto AI mode capable of adjusting picture quality based on the genre of content being displayed. Its 2022 TVs will be able to detect genres faster than before but the LZ2000 will also now factor in the ambient colour temperature of a room to deliver an improved experience in different lighting conditions.

Set the Colour Tuner as Enabled to adjust the Hue, Colour and Brightness values manually. You can use this option to set the range of colours displayed on your TV screen. When set as On, colours are set according to the source signal. When set as Off, the TV’s maximum colour capacity is used by default (recommended option). Note: This option may not be available depending on the TV model and its features. Ultra HD (UHD) Accessories Included TV supports Ultra HD (Ultra High Definition - also known as 4K) which provides resolution of 3840 x 2160 (4K:2K). It equals 4 times the resolution of Full HD TV by doubling the pixel count of the Full HD TV both horizontally and vertically. Ultra HD content is supported via native and market applications, HDMI, USB input(s) and over DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 broadcasts. The biggest audio upgrades are seen on the flagship LZ2000, which gets directional sound courtesy of multiple built-in upward-, side- and front-firing speaker units. The TV also benefits from a series of front array speakers that run along the bottom of the panel. This new arrangement is able to deliver directional audio that can be adjusted to suit an individual’s needs via an easy-to-use UI. Viewers can select from three different modes: Pinpoint mode directs sound to a specific point in the room, Area mode shifts sound to a certain area and Spot mode boosts volume in a particular spot. Operating system Ensure the TX-55DX600’s noise reduction systems are turned off when watching good-quality HD and all 4K sources too, to stop them potentially starting to look soft.

From my efforts I’d make the following recommendations. First, never use the Intelligent Frame Creation (IFC) motion compensation processing on a setting higher than Minimum, or pictures become plagued by digital processing artefacts. Next, make sure the HDMI Output setting is on Mode 2 if you’re attaching an Ultra HD Blu-ray player – thankfully, my test set defaulted to this setting. Supported DVI Resolutions When connecting devices to your TV’s connectors by using DVI converter cable (DVI to HDMI cable - not supplied), you can refer to the following resolution information. Supported File Formats for USB Mode Video File Formats Format File Extension .mpg/.mpeg/.dat/ .vob .ts/.trp/.m2ts .avi .mp4/.m4a/.m4v/ .mov/. qt/.3gp/.3g2/ .3gpp .mkv .flv .asf/.wmv .webm Video Codec Audio MPEG1/2, H.264, VC1 MPEG1/2, H.264, VC1, HEVC/H.265 MPEG1/2, MPEG4, H.264, MJPEG MPEG1/2, H.263, MPEG4, H.264, HEVC/H.265, AV1 MPEG 1/2, MPEG4, H.264, HEVC/H.265, AV1 Sorenson Spark, MPEG4, H. Switching to stereo music with Sunday Driver by The Raconteurs, the Panasonic struggles slightly to project the vocals but provides a pleasingly open and spacious delivery. maturity level is disabled, prohibits access to the broadcast. General TV Operation Using the Channel List The TV sorts all stored stations in the channel list. You can edit this channel list, set favourites or set active stations to be listed by using the Channels menu options. Press the OK button to open the channel list. You can filter the listed channels or make advanced changes in the current list using the Filter and Edit tab options. Highlight the tab you want and press OK to see available options. All the most watched TV channels in one place without subscription. Includes all the main UK catchup apps – iPlayer, ITV Hub, 4, 5, UKTV Player, and more. Despite not being an HDR-capable TV, the TX-55DX600 uses one of Panasonic’s “Bright” panels and supports a wider colour spectrum than a bog-standard LCD TV. However, both features deliver only relatively minor improvements to brightness and colour compared with the more extreme technologies used in this year’s high-end HDR-capable TVs. Dolby Atmos®, found in the newest cinemas, and on our premium TVs expresses sound with astonishing clarity, richness and depth. Sound effects are precisely placed in virtual space and time to envelope you in the atmosphere. JZ980:The last of the 2021 OLEDs, the JZ980, has Panasonic’s standard 4K OLED panel with support for HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and DolbyVision IQ, the brand-new processor, two HDMI 2.1 ports with eARC, VRR, 4K at 120Hz and ALLM, and a 30W sound system. LX800: The only LCD TV announced for a UK release, the LX800 swaps out the My Home Screen OS for Android TV. The experience is geared towards smart operation, with Chromecast built-in and Google’s voice assistant accessible directly from the TV’s remote. The speaker units have been upgraded from last year’s model so should be able to take better advantage of the set’s support for Dolby Atmos. The 43in and 50in models miss out on Panasonic’s HDR Cinema Display panel found on the larger screen sizes.

For gamers there’s a bespoke Game Mode to reduce input lag for a faster gaming experience. However, there’s none of the more advanced features such as VRR needed for PS5 and Xbox Series X in case that’s of interest. JX850:This LCD model features Panasonic’s HDR Bright Panel Plus with HDR10+, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision support. Here the chip is downgraded to the HCX AI Processor. It’s hardly frills-free, as it has advanced AI upscaling, Filmmaker mode and HDMI 2.1 next-gen gaming features.
