Being a relatively recent formal addition to the game, the men and women of the Free Cities haven’t gotten a whole ton of rules support. The Battletome These returning heroes have everything, stalwart infantry, Heroes that not only buff but also slap pretty hard, mortal wound shooting and if you want cavalry then they do it right – with dragons. The leader is a Magister on Disc of Tzeentch, a valuable leader for mortals, with the new rules almost a must-take. If you are starting a Khorne mortal army this is a good starting point as there are 3 heroes, 1 elite unit and 2 more battleline units, but remember you will need to integrate with more boxes to obtain the missing options. Lords – The Stormcast Eternals give you a variety of Lord choices, depending on what you’re looking for.

The Fyreslayers Vanguard box replaces the pre-existing Start Collecting set with the big loss of the Magmadroth, now available separately. The value of this new box is arguable, but as it’s the only place where to start a Fyreslayers army with a discount, therefore still maintaining some value. Marks against it are twofold: the first is the scenery tray thing. As I said in my summary of the Warrior review, printing the cardboard tray to look like scenery is a clever idea, but there remains something a bit weird about it. Perhaps it’s the fact that the rest of the set is of such high quality – the excellent books, the wonderful miniatures – that playing on a wobbly card box just feels a bit wrong. As I originally said in our Dominion review, I want to say well done to the sculptor who designed these because they are incredibly detailed. The Vindictors, with a Bravery stat of 7 (+1 thanks to the Banner Bearer), a roll of 2 remained resolute in spite of their two losses. With all the objectives contested – bar the one the Stormcast Eternals had abandoned – no-one was awarded any points. The main hero now is a Battlesmith, a totem and a good option for a leader. Probably not good enough to justify two of these boxes, but the decision comes from how many Vulkite you need.

Stormcast Eternals: Exorcism Soulstrike

Determined to prove my pals wrong and simultaneously hypnotised by the colour gold, I took the plunge with the Start Collecting! Stormcast Eternals Thunderstrike Brotherhood box – which, once upon a time, came with a handful of Khorne miniatures in the the original Age of Sigmar Starter Set. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the content. Please let us know in this article’s comments. That being said, those are hard to find and this is a rare army with not one, but two Start Collecting! boxes, and the potential for so many more. Weirdly, the Freeguilds, who are the face of the faction, don’t have a Start Collecting! set of their own at time of writing, but the available sets provide a hearty savings and a decent core to an army. Start Collecting! Anvilguard: Because Raptors are pretty strong shooting units and their warscroll isn’t bad. This whole box is actually ideally set up to start you on the road to using all the warscrolls available to the Vanguard chamber and combined, they’re pretty spicy.

So, you’ll be able to build either the figure on the top row or the one directly below them. This is great, as it means there’s lots of scope to personalise your new fighting force. Not fans of the original Mass Effect trilogy, for whom the name “Harbinger” holds nothing but fear. The guide however explains how you can build these models,m but for the beginner, it does not recommend which you should build for your introduction to Warhammer. So you may end up following this, making the coolest looking models you can, only to realise later that you’ve created an invalid unit. The eel-riding unit can be assembled as a more defensive Ishlaen Guard or a more offensive Morrsarr Guard. Whichever you choose they are both valid choices.

This box is the first Vanguard box released for Age of Sigmar and replaces the previous Start Collecting Daemons of Nurgle. The good ones are START COLLECTING STORMCAST VANGUARD and START COLLECTING STORMCAST THUNDERSTRIKE BROTHERHOOD. This third box is a joke. The other mark off, the fact that the Harbinger Starter Set doesn’t feel as well-geared towards absolute beginners as the Warrior Starter Set. That feels like a strange thing to say given how similar so many of the contents are, but I can’t escape the feeling that the Harbinger Set may be just a little too big for absolute beginners. As I’ve said above, though, for people with established collections already, or returning players who are already used to playing with larger armies and want to get into AoS 3.0, this’d be an excellent set.The Mighty Lord of Khorne can also be played as Korghos Khul, one of the original antagonist in the first version of Age of Sigmar. One thing to be aware of with these figures is the join line down the cape on each side. Once again, some sprue goo (that’s glue with some old sprue mixed in to make a melted plastic paste) will be your friend here and you’ll be able to make the gap disappear, as I have in the picture below.
