Description

Patchwork DOODLE was released in 2019. This is a "roll and write" game that uses cards to represent the pieces, and has players roll a die to determine which pieces to play. Players then draw the pieces on a sketchpad board. If your time token is on top of the other’s time token or behind it, you go again. Otherwise, it is your opponent’s turn. Both players have a quilt board, five buttons (this is currency) and a time token. You’ll need the rest of the buttons later so keep them at arms reach! Patchwork is a 2 player game. Your job is to make the best patchwork quilt on your game board with a 9×9 grid. Then players score; you find the largest rectangle you’ve coloured with no gaps and score for the largest square in that rectangle plus one for every row/column not inside the square. For example, in a 6×4 rectangle, you’d score 16 for the 4×4 square plus two for the rows not in the square, so 18 in total. Once the first round is scored, you move onto round two and repeat, then round three.

If while moving you pass a special patch, take it and place it on your quilt board. They are the only 1×1 patches. In the board game Patchwork, two players compete to build the most aesthetic and high-scoring patchwork quilt on a personal 9x9 game board. Patchwork is a form of needlework that involves sewing together pieces of fabric into a larger design. Today, patchwork is a form of art, in which the designers use precious fabrics to create beautiful textiles. The use of uneven pieces of fabric in particular can result in real masterpieces and is therefore being practised by a large number of textile artists. To create a beautiful quilt, however, requires effort and time, but the available patches just do not want to fit together. So choose your patches carefully and keep a healthy supply of buttons to not only finish your quilt, but to make it better and more beautiful than your opponent‘s! The aim of Patchwork is simple: in this game, as in life, the player with the most buttons wins. Why? Because, let’s face it: buttons are great.

Inspired by quilting - sewing together patches of fabric to create a single made up of different patterns - Patchwork doesn’t exactly inspire much excitement in its opening statement. But trust us, this is a title that anyone who is looking for a chill and potentially highly competitive experience for two people should definitely have in their games library.

Players take it in turns to either buy a patch and place in on their board at the cost of coins or pass their go to gain coins. players must navigate and get to the centre first to gain extra coins but you also loose coins if you finish and have blank spaces on your patchwork quilt, so you have to balance speed with a beautiful quilt, making the game more strategic than it may first appear! There is no real catch here: Patchwork is indeed a rather peaceful game for two. But it is quite challenging and exciting, even though what you are dealing with is just patches for a quilt. Actually, those patches deserve attention. They are colorful and just a pleasure to hold in your hands and a pleasure to add to your personal quilt that you may design to look the way you want it to look. Keep your mice safe from the hungry cat! If you’re the last player with mice left in your bowl in this fast-paced game, then you win. Roll dice to find out what happens. You can squeak by a sleeping cat, but a hungry cat spells trouble. This adorably thematic game comes with little mice pieces, unique dice, and a bowl for the kitty. Here, Kitty, Kitty! You have to keep an eye on your opponent because they are more than likely to accidentally grab the patch you desperately need! You cannot have a successful strategy if you think only about your own quilt and ignore your opponent’s actions. a b c d e Vose, Thomas (7 December 2020). "Game Review: Patchwork". All in all this is something you need to decide on your own. The "long" story behind this is, that - when the development of the app started - Uwe suddenly had a platform where he was able to conduct a lot of playtesting easily and fast (the original intend of this was to "teach" the AI). In this process he became aware that the first leather patch statistically is coming to early. This means that in more than approx. 50% of the games, the first leather patch is not useful (as it can't fulfill it means - filling gaps - as there are no gaps at that time). Thus he decided to put the patch on a later space. However, "Patchwork" already was a much appreciated and grat game before that change and a lot of people had no issue with this "statistical flaw". And while Uwes perfectionism in his games is perfectly fine, deciding to not change the board is too. The only difference in round three is that for the final patch you can choose any of the final three available. Finally, you count your totals and produce a final score, minus all blanks on your sheet. And for people who like a little more nightmare before their Christmas, we have Patchwork Halloween addition too!
