At one time or another every one of us has looked up at the night sky and wondered: What does it all mean? When she's not writing or learning more about marketing, she loves to dance and travel all over the world. Tyson has received numerous awards, including NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Medal in 2004 and the Public Welfare Medal awarded to Tyson by the National Academy of Sciences in 2015 for his “extraordinary role in exciting the public about the wonders of science. Astrophysics for People in a Hurry is an easily digestible summation of the universe, from the big bang to the present. He admits, “we are hamstrung in this analysis by not knowing what the dark matter is in the first place.

The author has a special talent for distilling complex concepts into understandable language, making the book attractive to casual readers as well as those already familiar with astrophysics. Would have liked more differing / opposing ideas to dark matter, expansion theory for example and any problems we are encountering with this present almost fixed ideology. And yes, every one of our body’s atoms is traceable to the big bang and to the thermonuclear furnaces within high-mass stars that exploded more than five billion years ago. After I told the waiter that my cocoa had no whipped cream, he asserted I couldn’t see it because it sank to the bottom. Now, we have only about 1,000 words to recount you briefly the history of nearly everything and, of course, we are going to need to rush through Tyson’s presentation. In Kirkus Reviews, the reviewer praised Tyson's "down-to-earth wit" and stated that the book "shows once again [Tyson's] masterly skills at explaining complex scientific concepts in a lucid, readable fashion. I enjoyed listening and he does talk about things I remember from high school, but my knowledge was just not to the point of understanding everything.

Not only because the subjects it deals with are grand on any scale – the creation of the universe, its structure, dark matter, dark energy, etc. Via critiques of the Apollo program and films like 2001 and Interstellar, Barry offers us a unique opportunity to step back and think of the contradictions of space exploration and our contemporary society. Astrophysics for People in a Hurry contains fascinating information about space and its many mysteries, as well as clear explanations of theories and discoveries. Sponsored by the Higher Education Working Group within the NASA Science Mission Directorate, this listing of resources about cultures and astronomy makes no claim to be comprehensive, but simply consists of a range of English-language materials that can be used both by educators and their students/audiences.This book will be a perfect choice if you want to know more about astrophysics through epigrams, aphorisms, funny experiences, and scientific principles written in a simple and palatable manner by the erudite.

The author explains the origin and structure of the Universe, the force of gravity, light, dark matter and dark energy, about our place in the Cosmos and how we try to understand its laws. Earlier this month, in an effort to show solidarity with the people of Houston after Hurricane Harvey, he tweeted that the “first word of the first comment spoken from the Moon was Houston: ‘Houston, Tranquility base here, the Eagle has landed. Science can seem like a difficult subject, but these lessons will help you start on the right foot and learn some pretty interesting facts about the universe. He also explains how the doomsdays reveal the deeper challenges facing human existence — the philosophical apocalypse effected by our lack of cosmic meaning in the vast universe. A sphere is an efficient way to enclose a large volume, and the gravity of large planets and stars tends to smooth them down into nearly perfect spheres.

A single branch of these primates would develop a genetic mutation that allowed speech, and that branch—Homo Sapiens—would invent agriculture and civilization and philosophy and art and science.

He also is an expert in the history of physics and, while covering contemporary subjects (one of his favourites being dark matter and dark energy), he manages to drop a few facts about Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday or Albert Einstein. However, it is chock full of scientific information about the universe, electrons, neutrinos, etcetera. Building on the wonder inspired by outer space, Astrophysics for Young People in a Hurry introduces an exciting field and the principles of scientific inquiry to young readers. I have to say though that I'm generally not a fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson, because a lot of times he'll just indulge the actual stupid things other people say. That is, thankfully, the only reference to the debate over Pluto’s planetary status that helped make Tyson famous—and infamous—years ago.For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. Neil deGrasse Tyson is the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History and also the host of Star Talk. They make up most of our universe, and, still, we know nothing about them except for the fact that they exist.
