Despite recurring ill health, Connolly toured the UK and Europe with his band, "Brian Connolly's Sweet", which was then renamed to "New Sweet". His most successful concerts were in West Germany, before and after reunification.

In 1990 this line-up was again reunited for the promotion of a music documentary entitled Sweet's Ballroom Blitz.
