We all know that cities are nowadays far too expensive… but what do you think about the scale of buildings and streets, the architectural styles and the life at ground level? At age 16, he heard somebody mention "Arunachala." Although he didn't know what the word meant (it's the name of a holy hill associated with the god Shiva) he became greatly excited. At about the same time he came across a copy of Sekkilar's Periyapuranam, a book that describes the lives of Shaivite saints, and became fascinated by it. In the middle of 1896, at age 16, he was suddenly overcome by the feeling that he was about to die. He lay down on the floor, made his body stiff, and held his breath. "My body is dead now," he said to himself, "but I am still alive." In a flood of spiritual awareness he realized he was spirit, not his body. a b c d e Lynskey, Dorian (9 October 2012). "Who I Am: A Memoir by Pete Townshend". The Guardian . Retrieved 4 January 2013. Once you inquire about illusory mind, Dive deep into the core of "i" by questioning "To whom it arise?". Through this inquiry, We will reach inward and the root of awareness. Finding out the meaning of life was always the most crucial topic. Before travelling to India to meet her final teacher, she practised meditation, Self-enquiry, contemplation and also attended various solitary retreats. Driven by a fiery determination and in hot pursuit of answers, Ann immersed herself in a wide variety of spiritual literature from east and west. This included the mystics, teachers and masters of varied traditions, including Ramana Maharshi, Paramahansa Yogananda, Joel Goldsmith, Buddhism, Taoism, Rumi and Sufism, etc.

Ann is the editor of Selfless Self, (hailed as a spiritual classic), on the teachings of Shri Ramakant Maharaj, which was published in 2015, and has since been translated into six languages. She also edited Maharaj’s books, Be With You, (2016) and Ultimate Truth, (2018). Who Am I?This book is designed to help us create a psychological portrait of who we are with the use of some unusual, oblique, entertaining and playful prompts. The book is filled with exercises to help us develop our self-understanding within key areas of our lives – helping to create a rich picture of our existence.Ramana Maharshi didn't have a human guru (other than himself). He often said that his guru was Arunachala, a holy mountain in South India. Why does the government tell white people that it’s okay to be nasty to Aborigines, even if they’re good people like me and Dot?” Bhagavan Sri Ramaṇa Mahārṣi (Tamil: ரமண மஹரிஷி) born Venkataraman Iyer, was probably the most famous Indian sage of the twentieth century, he was born on December 30, 1879 in a village called Tirucculi about 30 miles south of Madurai in southern India. His middle-class parents named him Venkataraman. His father died when he was twelve, and he went to live with his uncle in Madurai, where he attended American Mission High School. Can a book be so exasperating and so soothing at the same time? Read "Who am I?" to find out:-) It is frustrating because the true meaning of Maharshi's words elude me at the experiential level. Even then--despite the cognitive dissonance--truth has a calming effect on the mind. Deep down, we know.

This is a deeply thought provoking booklet . I had to read it twice to let the message sink in . By and large his thoughts concur with the Hindu philosophy : ☆☆Beware Spoilers This world is but an illusion..... a temporary phenomenon. The reality is the Self . What is referred to as the Self is the Atman ( the immortal soul ) . Whereas, the thought ' I ' is the first thought of the mind ( which is connected to the gross world, as opposed to the Self [ soul ] which shines forth only when the mind has been quietened ) and that is egoity . Whatever one does , one should do without egoity' I ' . If one acts in that way , all will appear as of the nature of Siva ( God ) . [ The selfless soul becomes one with God ] . Meditation aids in rendering the mind quiescent . Self enquiry ( seeking the Self or selfless Soul ) will then become easy . ☆☆ The journal format of any story has immediate appeal to younger readers, they can relate to it, it’s on their level and therefore it literally ‘talks to them’. I love this one for the same reason I fell in love with literature years ago … its ability to give insight in to periods in history which have had such an impact on those involved.Daly, Sean (4 November 2012). "Review: Pete Townshend memoir 'Who I Am' gloomy yet addictive". Tampa Bay Times . Retrieved 7 January 2013. Know Yourself Prompt CardsThese cards are designed to assist us in a journey of self-knowledge; they present us with a range of ideas and questions that can help us to understand ourselves better. Each card carries an exercise on one side and a piece of analysis on the reverse to help you gain insight and clarity on that ever elusive subject: yourself. Any working life involves a balance between worldly and authentic concerns, a balancing act between what the world requires and what we like. Who Am I ? I never thought of that. I'd ask someone, but I'm sure they would disappoint me. I think a debate between me and me would be more fruitful, but what if we argue ?? Complicated...
