I'd say that for moderately midgey conditions it's probably better than nothing, but that when midge-mageddon strikes the Thermacell is as effective as anything else - which is to say, not very. But while mosquitos are very unpleasant, and in some parts of the world keeping them away is literally a matter of life or death, any UK user is going to know full well that, when it comes to sheer annoyance and persistence, not all small biting insects are equal.
