Displaying objects and artworks made in West Africa, the Caribbean, South America and Europe, this landmark exhibition also reveals the histories that have been silenced; not just stories of exploitation, but those of resilience and liberation, too. From Roman Africans guarding Hadrian's Wall, to an African trumpeter in the court of Henry the Eighth, Black Georgians fighting for the abolition of slavery, Black soldiers fighting for Britain in the First World War, Windrush and right up today. A clear concise book starting with the Romans and finishing with the Windrush and ensuing scandal to BLM protests. He is Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester, the author of several books and a columnist for the Observer, The Voice and BBC History Magazine , also writing for the Guardian and the New Statesman .

This exhibition explores some new stories from history – stories that help us to separate fact from fiction and history from myth. Hepresents the long-running BBC history series A House Through Time and wrote and presented the multi-award winning BBC series Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners. It shows how through resisting colonial slavery, people produced new cultures known as the Black Atlantic, that continue to shape our world. From Roman Africans guarding Hadrian’s Wall, to an African trumpeter in the court of Henry the Eighth, Black Georgians fighting for the abolition of slavery, Black soldiers fighting for Britain in the First World War, Windrush and right up today.

He often makes work based on popular culture and current events, having created a Star Wars-themed zine and portraits of public figures such as Taika Waititi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
