Not only do their armies include an additional unit apiece – Outriders and Skorpekh Destroyers respectively – but a different set of Characters too. Every unit has new and reevaluated rules, so every army will feel new from day one of the new edition. For example, the addition of the Battlefield Expansion Set will double the size of your gaming area and terrain collection (perfect for Incursion-scale games*) in one fell swoop! The largest hive fleet in history has emerged, swarming across the galactic west, laying waste to hundreds of worlds unable to muster a meaningful defence in the face of this living apocalypse.

Personally I like the simplified naming scheme because it’s more clear what you’re getting and helps to set reasonable expectations. Indomitus is by far and away the most impressive Warhammer box we’ve ever made and it’s arriving this July. They go together very easily and there are levels of dynamism and motion that leave almost all of the previous Primaris Space Marine kits in the dust. Anyway, in spite of the weird box terrain, the set does a great job of introducing newbies to playing Warhammer 40,000.

The box has been optimised for you veteran hobbyists out there, meaning the whole box is just packed full to the brim with great models and the rules to play – it’s so full, in fact, that Indomitus will save you more than 50% over getting the contents separately. Though it leaves me wondering, what about all of those other awesome Models we got in the Indomitus Set?Competitively at the moment you’ll often see Sautekh and Novokh on top, though just about every dynasty (and custom dynasty) has neat options that you can play to and give your opponent a tough challenge. More experienced modellers and painters will also be pleased to know that the Space Marines can be easily converted and work very well with the various chapter-specific Primaris conversion kits available. That helps shore up the fact you don’t really have much melee threat – anyone charging in has to reckon with catching a reaper volley in exchange, which still forces them to be very cautious. Army selection is equally straightforward: pick a faction, a warlord, and the units you like (just no more than three of any one type*), and stay within your points limit.

Or, if hulking super-soldiers don’t appeal, you might prefer the cyborg tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus; the hyper-religious battle-nuns of the Sisters of Battle; or foot-slogging infantry and tanks of the Astra Militarum armies. It’s a valid tactic just about anywhere, but Mephrit makes it especially dangerous: a character with the Veil of Darkness can jump itself and 20 Reaper Warriors into position and light up most targets, boosted by stratagems to increase wounds (via Disintegration Capacitors) and/or inflict mortal wounds (via Talent for Annihilation) if need be.Clad in Gravis armour and armed with long-range melta rifles, they exist to do one job,** and they’re nothing short of peerless in its execution.
