We used the NP-32 as the main keyboard for testing throughout our review process, and we believe it’s the superior choice. The Electric Piano sounds (there are two of them) here are both very well done. The first sound is a blend between a Rhodes, a Mk I, and a Wurlitzer. For those of you who don’t know, think of it as a vintage, warm electric piano sound heard in 60s and 70s music. First of all, many of today’s digital pianos use stereo samples, which sometimes require two or even more notes for each key played.

It may be difficult to believe that something so small, portable and inexpensive can sound great, but have a listen for yourself by watching this vid: You can tell right away that the NP-12 is built quite well—especially for a fairly inexpensive keyboard. It’s clean, minimalistic design proves that the manufacturer set out on a very specific mission with this keyboard: create a simple user interface that allows players to immediately sit down and start playing. TRANSPOSITION. You can transpose the keyboard either up 5 semitones or down 6 semitones to adapt to unfamiliar key signatures.

Headphones come in very handy when you want to practice in private, focusing solely on your playing and not disturbing others nearby. The same goes for the volume knob. It’s smooth plastic, but the actual turning of it barely gives any resistance, which means it’s difficult to make precise volume changes. These are non-issues for most beginners, as the keys and sounds are of top importance.
