Overall, though, there just isn’t enough power or dynamic range available to really get the sound out into your room as much as you’d like it to. Verdict

The Q60B’s picture hardware is driven by a Quantum Processor 4K lite system that seems to be more or less on a par with the Crystal processor found in Samsung’s non Quantum Dot TVs. Certainly, it doesn’t appear to have any of the machine learning/AI elements you get higher up Samsung’s TV range, with Samsung’s blurb on it only really talking about improved upscaling of sub-4K content and the ability to automatically adjust the sound profile to suit different content types. There’s support for Samsung’s Health system, too, which combines workout videos with Samsung’s Health App to let you establish wellness routines and try out premium exercise classes without having to leave your home. Gamers will also be attracted to the Q60R with its excellent range of gaming technologies and settings including Game Enhancer, a gamma manipulation tool to help find enemies in the shadows and you can add in Auto Motion Plus with games, but this will impact on the input lag times (rising from 14ms to 24ms).Link up a wide choice of devices via the three HDMI and two USB ports, whether that’s a Blu-ray player to please your household’s film buffs, or a console for the avid gamers. Plus, you can connect via Bluetooth or stream from your PC to enjoy even more content. What’s more, use the multiple assistants, Bixby, Alexa, and Google Assistant to control your TV with your voice. The Q60B offers three levels of input lag reduction. Since I couldn't see any difference in video quality between them, I went with "fastest," which scored a respectable 10 seconds with both 1080p and 4K HDR. Requires Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or other wireless network connection and devices registered to the SmartThings app. While its content is impressive, we’re not fans of the way Samsung’s latest smart TV system is presented and organised. Moving to a full-screen interface from the previous generation’s superimposed rows of content along the bottom edge feels unnecessary, and the layout and navigation of the new smart interface both feel unhelpful and illogical at times. Experience suggests we’ll probably see a much-improved refinement of this new approach next year. Here’s hoping, anyway. We found the Q60R performed best when in a well-lit room with normal viewing materials and when sat directly in front of the TV. It should also appeal to the gamers out there who tend to sit directly in front of the screen and use the games mode in a bright room. Gaming performance is excellent on the Samsung Q60R with an excellent 14ms of input lag in the game mode with all processing disabled. If you use the processing, such as Game Enhancer, it adds 10ms of lag so you are looking at 24ms, which is still an excellent result.

There's also a selection of picture modes keyed to game genres, namely Standard, RPG, RTS, FPS, Sports, as well as a Custom mode that lets you adjust brightness, contrast and the rest manually. Cycling between the modes with Horizon: Forbidden West the differences were very subtle, with very slightly more shadow detail in FPS mode than the other modes: I saw bigger differences by far with similar modes on LG TVs. As with most TVs, the brightest mode (Dynamic in the Samsung's case) is horribly inaccurate. For the accurate results listed above I used Movie mode and I recommend X80K owners do the same to get good color in bright rooms. Note that with SDR, you may need to disable the ambient light sensor (Settings > Menu > Power and Energy Saving > Brightness Optimization > Off) to get full brightness. The story was similar to the challenging Spears and Munsil 4K HDR Benchmark montage on Blu-ray, where the Samsung looked a bit brighter than the Sony. Both outperformed the Omni, which showed less high-level detail in snowscapes, but the difference wasn't massive.
