Description

The Foray MIPS drafts off the bold design language of the premium Synthe helmet, and offers many of the same key features including durable In-Mold construction and the Roc Loc 5 fit system with two-way fit adjustment. For certain impacts, the Mips system can reduce harmful rotational motion that might otherwise be transferred to the user’s head. The Giro Foray helmet looks great and with the colour and size options there is something for everyone.

Pull it out to extend the Roc Loc's cranial coverage but as soon as you put the helmet on it had a tendency to revert back to its lowest setting far too easily. This leads to a higher probability of achieving a comfortable fit for more head shapes and sizes and helps promote airflow inside the helmet. If your budget can’t stretch higher up the product range for a Synthe, opting for the Foray is by no means settling for second best. With its minimal weight, low profile, and excellent ventilation, you wouldn't look out of place with this lid whether you're commuting across town, cruising on a weekend group ride, or even racing against those with helmets that cost four times as much. The adjustable and unobtrusive Y-buckles are easy to manipulate to dial in the right tightness for a comfortable fit. The Foray MIPS comes with the same type of chinstraps and adjustable Y-buckles as Giro's more expensive top-tier helmets.

While it lacks some fancier higher-end features, it certainly includes all the essentials and performs well across the board. Unfortunately, as with other cycle helmets with this kind of chin-strap, you need to give them a scrub as often as possible as they can tend to get a bit smelly with the build up of sweat. In a crash, the Mips system is designed to move slightly inside the helmet to help redirect forces away from the head. The slim design is very light, offers great ventilation and is available in three Super Fit™ sizes so that you can get a helmet that looks, fits and feels like it was made for you.

The Foray MIPS comes with Giro's Roc Loc 5 fit system which features an adjustable headband with a tensioning dial at the back of the helmet. Being au fait with its Roc Loc closure system and Mips interior – designed to rotate with the helmet in the unfortunate case of any ejector seat moment, rather than digging in and jarring the skull on impact – pulling the Giro Foray on to my head for the first time felt satisfyingly familiar. The slim design is very light, offers great ventilation and is available in three super fit sizes so that you can get a helmet that looks, fits and feels like it was made for you. However, this lid comes without some design features found on some of the more expensive models in our lineup, so while our testers were able to dial in a comfortable fit, riders with other head shapes and sizes might not be able to dial it in so perfectly. Add to this the fact that my size M Foray weighs in at 271g on the Abbott family’s digital kitchen scales, compared to the 285g of my Synthe, and the positives just keep on coming. US and Worldwide cycle helmet giants Giro have been creating and producing protective head wear for cyclists since 1985. This helmet can withstand the full impact of an accident flawlessly, thanks to its durable In-Mold construction, Coolmax padding, and the Roc Loc 5 fit system with two-way fit adjustment. Most riders looking for a single affordable helmet that looks and performs similar to much more expensive models would be well-served by this model. Our testers find the Foray MIPS to be a comfortable helmet with adequate padding and easy adjustability for an optimum fit. After travelling the world, usually with a bike, he started working on mountain bike magazines, going back to his roots by playing in the dirt racing downhill and taking part in early four-cross events.
