The tension builds up to almost unbearable levels by the time Jerry has to reveal a deadly secret he’s been keeping from Millicent. Forced down on a bed, her legs held apart, Hibo Wardere was made to undergo female genital cutting, a process so brutal, she nearly died. If you have troubles with self harm, it's a must read, it makes you realize you're not alone with your feelings, but most importantly, this book can help you take that first and most difficult step: It can help you understand that you are worth the recovery.

Hibo Wardare shows those who read this book that there is hope for those who have been effected already and for those who have yet to be effected.Sierra Leone has implemented a zero tolerance policy, where a girl cannot attend school if she has been cut. It is the story of Millie Spark, a special effects make up artist specializing in video nasties back in the 80s. It is fairly realistic in most places about its portral of self-harm and the confusion and feelings that a person in that situation can experience. Millicent lives with Vivien and Carla, also elderly ladies, and they have advertised a room for rent in their very nice house. Also of minor note - it would appear the time setting is the early 90's, as cell-phones, Internet, and other present-day technology are noticeably absent from the proceedings, plus the Dunkin' Donuts described in one scene has the 20th century layout with the counter and stools.

Today Hibo finds herself working in London as an FGM campaigner, helping young girls whose families plan to take them abroad for the procedure. Imagine for a moment that you are 6-years-old and you are woken in the early hours, bathed and then dressed in rags before being led down to an ominous looking tent at the end of your garden. Yet, as beautiful and idyllic as their designs are, soil health and productivity are their main concerns.year-old Millicent ”Millie” Spark, a former make-up and SFX expert was once immersed in the glitzy, but seedy world of low budget horror films, where she used her talents to create realistic scenes of bloody violence. I think I could relate to her on some things, for reason it feels like I've been there with the girls in Group. CUT is an amazing first novel by Patricia McCormick that offers a glimpse inside the mind of a 15-year-old girl who cuts herself.

Although still maintaining her innocence, Millie has long given up on finding out what really happened and is going full steam ahead with her suicide plans. I did find parts, particularly of the historical side of Millie's story, a little slow/convoluted at times. It shows some teenagers who have done something wrong, sensationalizes that bad thing, and tells you not to do that thing. From an active, successful, creative professional woman of early middle age she has become a frail, agoraphobic, self-doubting old granny that seems unable to deal with the outside world after half a lifetime of prison. Edited Bruce's race car crash to hide bad physics and also to keep the action inside the cockpit, close to Wayne, as in the graphic novel. The decorations are absolutely stunning and the staff are amazing, you’ll have someone to take your coat/jacket and you do not have to wait too long to be served.

But the flow, though complex and requiring the reader to swallow a couple of improbable coincidences, follows a logical enough path and ultimately the tale’s clever dénouement successfully ties off most loose ends. I really like how she cared about the other girls, and there are certain things about her that I think would make great characteristics in a book. The book is a very honest, shocking and at times difficult read as Wardere recounts her childhood ordeal to become a leading spokesperson and anti-FGM campaigner in British Muslim communities.

Also, randomly and out of nowhere, there are two occurrences where she feels the room move, or shift, or something out of the ordinary but it never leads anywhere. She's a runner, perfectionist, the oldest child with a perpetually sick sibling, neglected by both of her parents, the daughter of an alcoholic, and seems to suffer from a combination of trust issues and social anxiety. Jerry is keen to escape from his halls of residence and when a house sharing opportunity arises he finds himself thrown together with Millicent and two other elderly ladies. At the age of 45 in 1994, Millie was convicted of the murder of her lover, Markus Laird, in her bed after a drugs and drink fuelled night.
