Regardless of where your allegiance lies, whether it be with the Imperial Empire or the Rebel Alliance, there's a Lego Star Wars helmet for everyone. There's now a huge range of models available and they're usually aimed at adult or older builders and typically come in at a lower price point, which makes them ideal for display. At 584 pieces, the LEGO Mandalorian Helmet, which is central to Din Djarin’s identity and characterisation in the hit The Mandalorian Disney+ series, and I can see this one selling really well due to the character’s popularity. The orange visor is probably the least accurate, as the dip in the middle feels too deep, but I learned from the designers that this was a particularly challenging part of the model, as they needed to use trans-orange elements, that were as clear as possible, and many iterations led to this one. When I first saw the helmet, and it being an open helmet, I was quite excited as I was hoping it would fit the Wooden LEGO Originals minifigure, but alas, it’s just a tad too large! It would’ve made such a brilliant accessory for it!

As mentioned at the beginning of this review, open-faced helmets introduce design challenges not present for enclosed designs. César Soares has expertly avoided those potential problems with 75327 Luke Skywalker (Red Five) Helmet though, faithfully depicting Luke's classic helmet. I am particularly pleased with the integration of the presentation stand and the decoration across this model. Construction of this helmet is obviously quite different to previous designs, since the ubiquitous studded box only fills the upper section of the helmet. Nevertheless, the prominent ridge which runs around the helmet requires remarkable complexity, as multiple segments with 1x4 curved slopes on top combine to form a beautiful curve! Fans of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet collection are in for a treat in 2022, with three all-new helmets to add to their collection, and in the next few days, I’ll be reviewing them all on the blog! However, consulting the onscreen helmet reveals the most significant problem with this model, as the angle of the brow structure seems too steep. Its position beside the decoration on both flanks is appropriate, but the curved elements above the visor should be closer to horizontal. This problem is particularly disappointing because the helmet otherwise looks outstanding. The light dances and bounces off the drum-lacquered silver parts of the helmet quite nicely, and it’s unmistakeably Mandalorian which is all you can ask for. In this section, you'll find a round-up of all Lego Star Wars helmets that have been discontinued. Lego sets don't last forever, and these have all been retired into the archives. Update: Prices and official release details, as well as Dark Trooper Helmet images also added to the post. Now that we have Rebel helmets, I can’t wait to see more of these – maybe we’ll get those aerodynamic Rebel Helmets soon!

More interestingly is LEGO’s first Rebel and open-face helmet – 75327 Luke Skywalker’s Helmet, which was famously featured when he flew his Red Five X-Wing in A New Hope to blow up the Death Star.Dark bluish grey curved slopes form padding inside the helmet, which looks marvellous. Their smooth shape conveys the appearance of soft material and the 2x2x1 curved corner slope is new in this colour. The adjustable comlink microphone and chinstrap are also accurate, even though they feel rather fragile. Luke Skywalker's helmet from the Battle of Yavin features vibrant colours and therefore differs from previous Helmet Collection models, so complements those helmets on display. The scale also remains consistent between them as this creation reaches 19cm in height, matching other sets. I think this scale works nicely for display, without occupying too much space. Step-by-step guide - Are you a newcomer to LEGO construction sets? No problem. There are clear, illustrated instructions in the box, so you can build with the confidence of a Jedi Master The proportions of this helmet look absolutely superb, including the rounded dystonic motivator housings on either side and the aforementioned ridge on top. The open interior looks excellent too, avoiding the unsightly support structure which affected 76182 Batman Cowl last year. The brow is noticeably raised though, relative to the source material.

As expected, the Mandalorian helmet borrows heavily on the Boba Fett Helmet, and employs a mix of light grey and silvery elements to create a sense of shininess. Dark Troopers are perhaps the most fearsome-looking of all Imperial battle droids - and it's safe to say that Lego has perfectly captured that ferocity in its design of the Lego Star Wars Dark Trooper helmet. It's a little smaller than most other helmets, thanks to the shape of the Dark Trooper's armor. Here’s a look on the sides, where the Red and Yellow V symbols are prominently displayed – which I believe are killcounts, in the style of fighter pilots. The trans-orange visor looks pretty good, although the dip in the middle does look a little off, but the bright colours, and unique shaping of Luke Skywalker’s helmet is brilliant, and should provide a fun building experience. BATTLE OF YAVIN OR BATTLE OF HOTH?: Flip the switch inside the helmet to choose between a simulation of piloting an X-Wing at the Battle of Yavin or a Snowspeeder at the Battle of Hoth The open face nature of the helmet is brand new territory for LEGO, and they’ve done a decent job here with it, and it doesn’t feel as empty like the LEGO Batman cowls.
