I've read some reviewer sending the best of 5 to Sigma, and coming back as the worst of them, so I''m not really enjoying this whole experience. Sigma makes this lens for a variety of mounts, but only the Nikon, Canon and Sigma mount versions have the HSM, or Hyper Sonic Motor function – Pentax and Sony versions don’t.

The VR of he Nikon would clinch the deal for me and probably eliminates most of the value of the faster lenses. The built quality is decent and although it has some distortion at its wide end, it is perfectly acceptable considering its wide angle and plus it can be corrected in post-processing. This lens is designed and meant forCanonandNikon cameras with a smaller sensor (often referred to as 'APS-C') which means that the lens does not fit all camera models. but I don't think it will be the most affixed lens on my camera as I thought it might have been before receiving it. At the 10mm end, the center is very sharp, but the corners get a little soft, but the corner softness decreases substantially as you move toward the "tele" end of its range, or as you stop down even a little from wide open. The AF-P lenses are different in this aspect and you do not really notice when it actually acquired the right focus the way it did with the older lenses.

But even if 4mm difference on wide angle lenses is noticeable, I can live with such compromise if the benefit is a much reduced weight and size. I have also tested this lens on my older Nikon DSLR D7000 (featured by Nikon as an incompatible model) and it indeed does not work. But this nothing new, manual override has been featured in most of the recent Nikkkor lenses – except for the cheapest one. I highly recommend that APS-C sensor format body owners include a 10-20mm (or similar) focal length lens in their kit as such a lens is extremely useful.low: Along the top and bottom of the frame, and along much of the left and right sides, the image is remarkably rectilinear. As for the missing 4 mm: with ever increasing density of pixels on DSLR cameras, light cropping can make up for shorter zoomed-in focal range.

In other areas, the Nikon 12-24 beats the Sigma 10-20 in terms of shading ("vignetting"), chromatic aberration (over most of its aperture/focal length range, at least), and geometric distortion. It has since become a very popular lens, due in no small part to offering the joint-widest angle of view of all the APS-C ultra-wide zooms, while being available in mounts to fit all of the major DSLR systems. Again, the physical size differences between these lenses are not significant - and all of these lenses have a very nice-to-use size. If you take lots of shots with the sun visible or just off camera, and don't want to Post Process the flare effect out, look for a different lens. The wide-angle brother is only tiny bit slower, but unlike in tele range in wide angle focal range speed is not so crucial. This can be a good thing for those that don't believe in using protective filters as it gives just a little more protection if you hit the front of the lens at the edges, however it's a problem if you use slim polarizers on the front element as it's very difficult to turn your polariser as it is almost inset into the rim of the lenshood.

On the other hand, if you are contemplating low-light photography with this lens, then a wider aperture lens would serve you better.

The focus ring turns all the way around the lens: there are no hard stops, but soft stops at infinity and closest focus. At 10-12mm, the corners don't really flatten out until you get to f/8, and even there, they're not quite crisp. To view the purposes they believe they have legitimate interest for, or to object to this data processing use the vendor list link below. Not much really - it's soft at the corners when wide open, there's some CA present when focusing close-up.
