New Old Friends’ acclaimed adaptation features four actors playing dozens of characters, comedy songs, and a fully realised car chase on stage! This began with two Sherlock Holmes continuation novels, The House of Silk and Moriarty, followed by my entry into the world of James Bond with Trigger Mortis.

The tale quickly escalates into a fight for the young protagonist Nick’s life, with him being kidnapped, shot at and given a pair of cement shoes. A hilarious family film noir pastiche following the adventures of the hopelessly inept private detective Tim Diamond and his sharp witted brother Nick. At home they find the Club is open, but their cleaning lady Betty Charlady says no good will come of it.Tim is the world’s worst private investigator, so can the help of his clever younger brother Nick be enough to crack their toughest case yet? I got this book as a gift from one of my cousins, and it kind of intrigued me about what Maltesers had to do with detective work, and then I started reading it. The next day, Johnny Naples is found dead, Tim is somehow framed for the crime, his much smarter and younger brother Nick gets the box of Maltesers, and every crook in town is out to get them. Not only is he so powerful that when he was given a parking fine, the police found the body of the traffic warden embedded in concrete, but he is diabolical enough to (spoilers, by the way), find Nick Diamond, trap him in a bathtub filled with quick-dry cement, and throw him into a river just to get him out of his way. At least, that's my version of events and that's what counts here because, very unusually, I actually appear in the book as his not entirely successful sidekick; the Watson to his Holmes.

Horowitz’s style of writing is built upon clever word play and dark humour, which is great fun, and would certainly entertain KS2 readers. Its got everything you need in a good book - peril/suspension/love/twists and turns and a decent ending. If you go into the novel expecting something special you will be greatly disappointed, however if you're looking for something quick and entertaining to read on a Sunday afternoon I would highly recommend it. Meet the Diamond Brothers, the world's most defective detectives, by the author of the number one bestselling Alex Rider series. It turns out that the pseudonym Fat Man is rather inappropriate – when the man himself is finally revealed, he is one of the thinnest men Nick has ever seen, with the rings on his fingers slipping off almost constantly. A month earlier, as he crossed the road to catch a plane to London from El Alto Airport, the Falcon was mown down by a bus, and Johnny Naples was the doctor who rode back to the hospital with him, in the back of an ambulance.
