This book was disturbing. I know that Joker's supposed to be disturbing. What disturbed me wasn't just Joker's behaviour. There were a few things. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Lex Luthor | Anatoli Knyazev | Doomsday | Mercy Graves | Cesar Santos | Amajagh | Joe Chill | Zod | Joker | Steppenwolf Honestly, the only thing i can tell you I know for sure is that my version of the Joker, the way you see him in this book, was established long before Ledger was even cast. Just to be clear, this is not to say that Nolan and Co. were informed by my drawing. I've said this before and I really find it to be true, that certain ideas float around at the same time for a reason. Pop culture, social tendencies, fashion, you name it. If you want to do a realistic interpretation of the Joker, there are only a few ways to do it.

Chekhov's Gun: The gun that Jonny gives Joker at their first meeting is the same one Joker uses to shoot Jonny in the face at the end. Renaud, Jeffrey (October 12, 2009). [ Wednesday Comics] contained fifteen continuous stories including...'Batman' with a story by Brian Azzarello and art by Eduardo Risso. {{ cite book}}: |first2= has generic name ( help) CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list ( link) Bermejo: It was something I knew I wanted to do from the beginning. The Joker's completely unstable nature just seemed to lend itself to an approach that hopefully created a slightly uneven reading experience. I would know while reading the script where I would need to use the effect and where not to. Again, it all came down to rhythm for me.

Harley Quinn- Her character has always been such a strong one. But in this book all she does is stand in the sidelines coming to the front whenever Joker needs her to spend the night in his bed. This is one of my favorite Joker stories (along with the "Killing Joke") and while the story and art can be considered disturbing, it ought to be. The Joker is a truly disturbing character and Azzarello's Joker is superb. Joker is an American graphic novel published by DC Comics in 2008. Written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Lee Bermejo, it is based on characters from DC's Batman series, focusing primarily on the title character. It is a unique take on the Batman mythos, set outside regular continuity and narrated by one of the Joker's henchmen. The miniseries Batman: Damned is a stand-alone sequel to the graphic novel, with the miniseries incorporating certain details, settings, and designs that hint at the two stories sharing a connected narrative. [1] Publication history [ edit ] Azzarello and Bermejo had previously worked on a similar take on Superman's archenemy in Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, and Joker grew out of a discussion following completion of that project. DC Editor Dan DiDio approved the new project the following day. [2] The initial plan was to reflect this connection with a title sharing the same structure, Joker: The Dark Knight but was felt to be too similar to the film The Dark Knight, and so the name was shortened. [2] When the writer was asked if he preferred writing villains he said: "I relate to them. [Laughs] I don't relate to the heroes. The Man, tryin' to keep you down!" [3] Plot [ edit ]Bermejo: Still probably a bit too early to talk about the next project in any kind of detail, but I can say that I'm working on another graphic novel for DC and it features prominently some of the main characters. I can also safely say that it is a much different project content-wise than Joker. I wrote this graphic novel so it will be my first foray into stewarding a project completely myself. So far it's been a challenging but extremely exciting endeavor!

In a 2016 interview, Brian Azzarello has mentioned that he hopes for his Joker graphic novel to someday receive an animated film adaptation. I also really like the idea of people 'feeling' their way around the characters in certain moments. Just giving them that extra touch of detail that almost enables the reader to see what kind of skin they have, see the reflection in a person's eyes, etc., etc. Like I said, I'm not sure if I was able to pull the effect off completely, but hopefully it helps me learn better how to tell an effective story. Success!

Azzarello cites Jim Thompson and David Goodis among his influences. [29] [30] Personal life [ edit ] Azzarello in 2011 Gilly, Casey (April 6, 2016). Joker by Brian Azzarello is one of these graphic novels you cant take breaks off you will gobble it up in a day.
