I fell prey to the marketing for Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life, and, for some twisted reason, I actually finished that awful book despite it being one of the most cringey reading experiences I've ever had the displeasure of going through. Good Morning, Monster is at heart an optimistic book, showing the ways in which people can overcome traumatic experiences and achieve happier lives. Following this, each section reads like a story of the patient’s presentation, therapy sessions, and progress, told from Gildiner’s perspective. If you're going to choose to read this book, realize that it has many things discussed in detail that could be triggering and traumatic. This makes Lori Gottlieb’s Maybe You Should Talk To Someone—a book that I enjoyed but that was brought down to a measly three stars by the author’s own inserted story—look like child’s play.

With gentle humor and welcome candor about her own therapeutic shortcomings, she draws us into patients’ lives, then helps us let them go, both of which she had to do as their therapist. When Laura had been intent on defending her father, she'd blocked many of her negative memories of him; but now, after two years of therapy, those painful memories began to flow like hot lava. Insightful psychological lessons of special interest to readers on therapeutic journeys of their own. Good Morning Monster offers an almost novelistic, behind-the-scenes look into the therapist's office, illustrating how the process can heal even the most unimaginable wounds. At times, I had to swallow my gorge (with immense difficulty) and struggle not to vomit during Alana's tale of survival and the near incomprehensible suffering she triumphed over. So, for someone to be able to take on these people in all their broken tragedy and lead them through all the horrible things in their lives, staring at it wide-eyed and unblinkingly, and mapping a path out of that hell?

The psychologist/ author Gildiner, chose 5 of her most horribly traumatized patients, and wrote about each of these " heroes". Good Morning, Monster is an intriguing book that explores in detail the experience of a clinical psychologist and 5 of her most memorable patients.Although their individual circumstances are unique, all of her patients are shown dealing with abuse or neglect by a parent, revealing the ways that childhood events and patterns have a lasting effect. G's patients demonstrated to survive at all costs, despite the horrible and terrible obstacles life threw at them.

Adapted from the book of the same name from NYT-bestselling author and therapist Catherine Gildiner, Good Morning, Monster follows the emotional recovery of Cathy's most heroic and memorable patients. Alana explains that the biggest initiator of these symptoms is the “tapes” of her father’s voice that play in her head. Aprašė susitikimus su savo buvusiais pacientais, kurie po terapijos pabaigos įvyko net po kelių dešimčių metų. These five people may at first have seemed vastly different, yet when the economic and cultural layers were peeled away, their unconscious needs were strikingly similar. The book starts with an Author's Note about seeking the patients' consent (which is described in each patient's section and appears to be more the author informing them that she is writing about them in a "case study" - i.
